"It was real interesting hearing Fred Thompson talk about Ronald Reagan last night," Huckabee said. "Because Fred Thompson supported [then-President] Gerald Ford in 1976 and not Ronald Reagan. He supported [then-Sen.] Howard Baker in 1980 and not Ronald Reagan. I appreciate his recent conversion, but some of us were for Ronald Reagan back in the early days; our legacy goes back a little further."

That bold text is so persuasive! I bet color would convince even more.

Convince them of what, I have no idea.

Fred Voted for the Nominee I am sure. There is one candidate who has campaigned on behalf of Democrats against Republicans and that is Mike Huckabee. He also pardoned more criminals than Mike Dukakis. Violent repeat offenders. I looked around the Baptist Church today and the place was filled with probably 1,300 people. Huckabee released that many criminals. It really adds some scale for it.

He talks like a liberal. He wants to be a vertical candidate who builds a bridge between liberals and conservatives. He can keep that bridge to no where.

All your guy has got is "guilt by association" comebacks. Truly pathetic. When do we get to hear some rebuttal concerning Guantanamo Bay, Immigration and the teachers union? Probably never.

I don’t care what either of them did in the 1976 or 1980 campaigns, unless it was something illegal. I care about what they’re likely to do in 2009-12 if elected!

In 1976 President Ford was the incumbent who had the difficult job of trying to hold the country together after Watergate. He served the office honorably.

Was Thompson a Ford delegate at the national convention? Or was he a Republican backing the then-sitting President.

Who did then 20 year old Huck vote for in the 1976? Ford or Carter?

BTW, The country really wasn’t ready for Reagan in 1976. Watergate was too fresh in the minds of everyone. Carter’s election and disastrous Presidency made the Reagan Revolution possible.

Reagan was not recognized as a “prime-time” conservative heavyweight until his speech at Gerald Ford’s convention.

This is a stretch on Huckabees part.

Why wouldn’t Fred support fellow Tennessean Howard Baker? They were from the same state and had become friends. Mike Huckabee has become the spoiler. He’ll not get the nomination but he is trying to spoil it for a true conservative, Fred Thompson. Get out, Mike. Go back to Hope and leave the rest of America to select a true leader, not a divider.

G. W. Bush probably voted for his dad in 1980 primary. Is that the same?

Don’t believe the Huckster. He’s dishonest! Plus he doesn’t have any common sense! Both good reasons to forget about him. He’s a pro-life, pro-gun lie-beral. To me, it would be more correct to say Huckleberry is a moral lie-beral, if there is such a thing.
