This is particfularly true of your censorious and self-righteous neighbor who's a Sierra Club member. I speak as a former member of that organization who left in complete disgust after business meetings of the Knoxville, TN chapter repeatedly degenerated into socialistic industry bashing.

One of things many people don't know about the Sierra Club is that it has a large and extensive outings program where the members go for local, national, and international hikes, ski trips, canoe trips, raft trips, etc. to all of the most exotic local, national, and international locations. On any weekend they'll pile into their cars and go for Club sponsored local trips. Summer vacations are often spent going on really exotic national and international trips, all of which require huge consumption of carbon based fuels.

It's fine for them to take their trips and stay active and healthy, but it's the depth of evil hypocracy for the Club to turn around and virulently attack the very industries and free enterprise system that have made its members' lifestyles possible.

....while their adherence to the green cause is mostly limited to small gestures.

Liberals are poseurs? I'm shocked, I tell you!

That third line should read “They have a keen FINANCIAL interest in green issues”.

Common communist tactic impose rules on the masses to keep them from enjoying the practices reserved for the ruling class. Hollywood hypocrites are the worse practitioners. Virtually all are major participants of the practices they demean.

I’m green only because I don’t own a car.

When I do own one, I hope the car has a pair.

This is also a group with high divorce rates that are coupled with shared custody.

They will maintain two separate homes, often so far apart that child visitation necessitates frequent transcontinetal flights or long car trips.

Meanwhile, the evil family down the road that buys the cheaper detergent maintains only one residence, takes maybe one flight per year and drives only on short, local trips.

No surprise to me!

My wife and I bought a gorgeous tract of pristine wilderness, covered with old-growth forest--breathtakingly beautiful--home to countless wild animals.

We cared for it, protected it, hoped to keep it in its pristine beauty forever. We are vegetarians, recycle faithfully, are very careful about not polluting anything, banned hunting and fishing on the property.

When the "envoronmentalists" got through with us, it was a desert. It is now.

They forced us, through their incessant regulations, interference, intimidation, obstruction, self-righteous malevolence, et al.--to sell it to developers--at a HUGE profit. We were heartbroken. I almost wept. I almost do now, just thinking about it.

What happened to the wildlife I do not know. I suppose they're now roadkill or have been hunted down.

These nazis have little interest in "the environment". What they want is CONTROL!!!

What they want is to be BIG SHOTS!

That's the Left for you. I have absolutely no respect for those people--only contempt.

What galls me is that no one points out the utter hypocrisy of the likes of Al Gore, RFK, Jr. and the Hollywood lefties. They dare to lecture the rest of us about saving the planet by living in eco-friendly cracker box homes, giving up our cars and even rationing the amount of toilet paper to use while they live in energy hog mansions, drive SUVs and ride in limos and think nothing of taking private jet trips around the world.

This is particfularly true of your censorious and self-righteous neighbor
who's a Sierra Club member.

Around 1993 while in grad school, I proposed the idea of
simply going totally to a digital format for MS and PhD theses.
The professor, the sponsor of the campus chapter of The Sierra Club
said "but, we've always used the bound paper format for theses!"

I had to restrain myself from asking how many more trees had
to die before the conversion to full digital was made.

Martins: Have you ever seen any of your victims?
Harry Lime: You know, I never feel comfortable on these sort of things. Victims? Don’t be melodramatic. Look down there. Tell me. Would you really feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving forever? If I offered you twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stopped, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money, or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare? Free of income tax, old man. Free of income tax - the only way you can save money nowadays.

< snip>

Harry Lime: Don’t be so gloomy. After all it’s not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

That is so true here in the part of California that I live in. I am surrounded by SUV driving, environmentally sensitive, democrat voting hypocrites. Every one of them can give you some kind of justification of why THEY should be able to fly around the country on business or drive their giant polluting cars, but, of course, nobody else should.
