Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

LOL!

At least then we could see Duncan in a debate!
I’ve missed seeing him, and listening to his answers.

You can go to church 3 times a day and not be a Christian.

True...

Christians believe in Christ.

How do you become a Christian? First of all, you don't become a Christian by joining a church, adopting a creed, or by believing in God. There are lots of false churches, false creeds, and even the devil believes in God.

Need I go futher, try a religious thread.

As a “fruit inspector” it is OK for you to judge FDT.

Why then is it NOT OK for people to judge the FRUITS of the Huckster’s governorship of Ark?

Thus you judge and deny the same. Hypocrite.

Hypocrite?

Oh no. I'm simply dealing with you and Dobson in your own currency.

Woe, I must be getting closer to getting out of FR purgatory.

It only took two minutes for my reply #316 to be posted.

Umm, people need to judge his fruit now, he is a flaming liberal on most issues. I ain't voting for Huck... again for the umpteen time, I am just saying Fred and FRedheads on FR would be wise to attack him on those issues and not belittle his faith.

Most of us do discuss his positions. But every thread seems to get into a discussion of Christianity, who is and who isn’t.

But huckabee’s response does not make him the devil incarnate.

_______________________________________________

No his lack of response to questions raised by Fred, questions not a hatchet job, make him more unelectable.
However his actual response, the metamucil thing, make him out to be a smart-ass.

I think he might try answering questions rather than resort to childish name calling. I am sure Fred wasn’t bothered by his answer, but Huck better expect more of the same.

The sad thing is Beth, I don’t even think Huckabee is smart enough to put a term on what he represents. He is the perfect rube for a combined efforts of the Christian Democrats, or their equivalent here, and the true socialist in the Democratic party to achieve their aims. Socialism in a clerics collar is no better than socialism in Birkenstocks and stinky hair. No wonder the left is so giddy about him...
We are going to have to pool our resources, this is a whole new ball game, and now we are on the same side it seems. It will take a combined effort of Mitt and Fred to stop this thing. I think the two of them are ahead of us already...
***************

Let’s hope and paray, ejonesie22! It’s funny how this race is unfolding.

When Fred Thompson came out I was afraid he would be the front runner, but now I wish he was! I still strongly support Mitt Romney - Fred’s my second, and I am praying hard that both of them, the only two conservative front runners, do something save the conservative Republican party.

Most the time these days, I feel sick to my stomach at what is happening.

By the way, Fred Thompson was AWESOME at the debate the other night!

But wait. Read some old news from the Arkansas paper. I’ve been browsing the archives and I don’t like what I see.

He could have us all on a diet soon. Oh and he must have a strange sense of humor. Here he jokes about old people throwing depends at him at rock concerts instead of babes throwing panties.

I think this guy has issues yet to be revealed. Scary.

Here are a few excerpts from the article:

“There is no greater issue driving the U.S. economy than this,” Huckabee says, “this” being the scourge of obesity, junk food consumption and sedentary lifestyles.

+++++++++++++++

Huckabee was originally against mandatory physical education requirements and curbing the sale of junk food in school vending machines — believing that those decisions should be left to school districts. But he was eventually persuaded otherwise. “I accept that Mike has a political constituency to worry about,” says Katz, who corresponds regularly with Huckabee. “If he alienates the food industry and his political base and he finds himself out of power, what good does it do us?

“If you’re asking me if I think he’s gone far enough, I would say no,” Katz adds. “But I’m pleased that he keeps giving me the opportunity to tell him what I think.”

+++++++++++++++

Conversations while jogging can be especially fruitful. Camaraderie is built, endorphins released, defenses dropped.

And after a while, Huckabee is saying things that politicians probably shouldn’t say. Like this:

“I keep hearing about these bands that have girls throwing their underwear onstage,” he says, bemoaning that Capital Offense doesn’t have any groupies. “But given our demographics, we’re more likely to have old men throwing their Depends at us.”

(Stewart, who is accompanying him on his run/interview — befitting her dual credentials as both a press secretary and marathon trainer — emphasizes that the governor is kidding about the Depends-throwing.)

++++++++++++++

MMM. Dr. Dobson could host it. They could even ...gasp...invite Duncan Hunter.

Duncan Hunter came here and fielded questions, name another candidate that did the same? He is an FR member in good standing, from what I can see, nobody had any problems with his answers.

Huckabee does not have the class, intelligence and “gravitas” to be POTUS.

The same was said about Ronald Reagan.

I’m sure someone has posted something similar by now, but this bears repeating:

Fred doesn’t need to take “his Metamcil”. Fred’s well-deserved crticisms of Huckabees positions hit the bulls-eye, and Huckabee knows it—thus the juvenile ad hominem response.

Fred doesn’t need Metamucil; however, Preacher Huckabee needs a large dose of Preparation H.

No one ever accused President Reagan of lacking class.

All Republican candidates will be accused by the MSM of lacking intelligence. I would hate to not be able to prove them wrong this time.

I oppose and will never allow amnesty. I passionately rejected the amnesty bill that President Bush and Sen. McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer after secret meetings of an under-the-radar cabal of amnesty-loving senators.
