Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred
cbsnews ^ | 01/12/08 | Joy Lin

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

Oddly enough I am studying it now, along with the newer Christian Democratic Movements here, in Canada and in Europe.

I don’t know if Huck is that smart or his lame actions over the years fit the mold, and those who follow him are either knowingly or by dumb luck following this path.

The drive for much of Christian Democratic movements seems tied to Recontructionist ideas. It is a new field for me,I just got the idea from someone else who said Huckabee sounds like a Christian Democrat. I have much more to read, but I already see the results, and I say no thank you.

Seems many are starting to confuse charity with entitlements...

have taken the time to learn about Mike Huckabee, for I wanted to know if I was wrong about him. Little did I realize until late yesterday as I finished up that I was studying my enemy.
Is there anything to do with the Christian Reconstructionist movement?
*********************************
Huckabee is a dangerous man - a liberal disguised as a republican. He’s not even a good Christian man - he is a liar. Check out the following for information on the reconstructionist movement:

Comment from PackerBronco on Freerepublic on 12-23-7:

In Huckabee I see a glib man stringing together a bunch of folksy maxims hoping they will result in a single coherent thought.

And Huckabee is robo-calling democrats in Michigan to come out and vote for him in the primary. Nice to know that a Republican is urging democrats to come out to pick OUR nominee. How about winning over the Republicans, Huck, rather than the dems.

I am scared he is more than that, by design or sheer dumb luck.

Doesn’t make him presidential material, either.

Just what we need, a president who makes bathroom jokes.

Well, now we know what Metamucil's ad campaign will be in 2009.

Probably run by the same agency that got Bob Dole to sell Viagra and Pepsi.

It is to me as well. I hit on it after a friend said Huck’s record and rhetoric had the hallmarks of the Christian Democrats in Europe (my friend is from Germany). It is all about the state taking the role of charity, of ensuring Social Justice and order.

We call it nanny state here, a simple and cute term that portends a disastrous path for a Federal Republic and a Capitalist economic system.

Look at the fall of Europe as an economic power, and here we are at a vulnerable time.

He keeps getting away with his comments because everyone seems to think he is so entertaining. At some point his humor is going to wear thin and he will step in it big time. That will be the end of his chances to be POTUS.

I am one that will NOT vote for Huck. And flame away.
To vote for him is the same in my book as voting for a Dem.
You want to vote for Huck...go ahead.
If he wins...which I doubt he will, because the Dems cant wait for his nomination...they are drooling with delight....

but if he did...I wont have to apologize for putting him there.

Why is there so much hatred for Huck on this sight?

Because, noob, this is a conservative site. You ight try reading the Statement by the founder of Free Republic for some insight. Huck is not conservative. He is far closer to democrats in philosophy than he is conservatives.

I will not vote for Mike Huckabee. Not ever. But he won’t be the nominee, so the point is moot.

bethtopaz,

Actually, the idea about the Christian Reconstructionist movement came to me from your post back in December. After I observed some disturbing posts from a Huckabee supporter here recently, it reminded me of the things I read from your links back, then. So I did some research of your own and may put it up as a vanity thread for more discussion.

Fred and people he seems to represent around here come off as a bunch of marginalized cranks.

You just gonna throw that out there and let it ride, or are you gonna back that statement up with some factual information? This Fred supporter would like to know how I am a marginalized crank.

Huck is running for president or vice president. It is now obvious that fred is running on ego and nothing else.

It's certainly clear that whatever Huck is running on, it isn't conservative principles.
