Huckabee Defends Joke About Fred
cbsnews ^ | 01/12/08 | Joy Lin

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Asked about Fred Thompson’s “hatchet” attack against him at Thursday's Republican debate, Mike Huckabee joked to Joe Scarborough that he thought “Fred needs some Metamucil. I think it would help a lot if he gets some. You know, he was in a bad mood last night.”

On the bus with reporters on Route 96 in Michigan from Lansing to Grand Rapids, Huckabee explained his Metamucil comment saying, “You have to understand the context of the show….It’s not quite as irreverent as Imus…not quite Stephen Colbert but it’s serious topics with an edge.”

“I really do believe if people can’t have some sense of humor as they approach this stuff, then it causes everybody to be so locked down and consultant driven that their campaigns become so boring because all they’re going to do is give this robotic answer to everything that’s very carefully scripted. I promise you, you won’t have moments like this,” Huckabee said, gesturing to the handful of reporters that had gathered around him for an on-the-record conversation that would last about 40 minutes.

“Does Romney do these?” Huckabee asked the reporters. No, replied one. Neither does Thompson, said another.

“If I thought I couldn’t be a human being. That I gotta wait till six handlers tell me what I can and can’t say and I have to read it, you know, it’s not worth it.”

GO HUCK. I’v never seen a bigger bunch of babies than some of the fredheads around here. Fred goes in with the hatchet and Huckabee laughs it off and says “take some metamucil fred”. Get a life guys.

Exactly. Fred calls Huck a Democrat and Huck implies he's just cranky. Which is worse? I take fiber supplements, but I don't want to be called a Dim. I think Fred is a drowning man who wants to take Huck down with him.

Huckabee voters say "he's like me"....yep, a hypocrite.

"Super religious while having fun with putdowns and playing the guitar. Cool!" - Huckabee voters think.

He's almost got a two-faced thing going on: Irreverence from one side of his mouth and holy reverence coming out of the other.

Hey, at least elephant08 is honest enough to admit that Huck’s not a conservative, which is more than we can say for most of Huck’s supporters on here....

I, for one, don’t hate him. I just wouldn’t vote for him.

Let’s say your right about a candidate needing to have liberal beliefs in order to become President. Then, why wouldn’t I just vote Democrat? Just because someone has an R in front of their name doesn’t make them a better choice.

If “we” need to nominate someone like this just to win, I’m in the wrong party.

Your argument that Huckabee was a Governor in a very Democrat state, hence his record, is very true, and the biggest reason I won’t vote for him. Your saying that he will do what he has to in order to remain popular, by Governing by opinion polls.

Thanks, what did I say? ;-)

It isn’t hatred. It is dismay, embarrassment, disbelief. I am not sure when you started following Gomer Huck Pyle, but it seems people who have been watching him closely don’t see him the same way.
This black dude in Michigan has been organizing democrats for Huck. I saw this dude with my own eyes call huck Gomer Pyle. His intent is to knock out Romney.
Dismay: Gomer’s “if we are nice to the terrorists they won’t hate us any more” and all his other foreign affair gaffs, not to mention his working with Mexico and using arkansas money to set up a mexican consulate for $1.00 a year, and his “OUR CHANCE TO MAKE UP FOR SLAVERY ......(TAKING IN AND TAKING CARE OF ILLEGALS) I know what he says now, but that was after the flak.

Mike Huckabee did not need to refute all the things Fred said about him because he did so during the debate.
You didn't hear Huckabee factually refute much of anything FDT said about him in the debate. He did deny-- but that was good enough for Huckabeebers.

Why is there so much hatred for Huck on this sight?
Don't confuse hatred for a complete lack of respect for a RINO. He may be pro-life and pro-gun, but that covers his conservative stances. He's a zero on illegal immigration and more.

“”A few years ago, people on Free Republic were falling all over themselves for Huckabee’s guitar playing at Freeper events.”””

AND THAT IS WHAT HE SHOULD STICK WITH ..... playing guitar. If that qualifies one to be president I vote for Toby Keith.

You’d look like... on second thought never mind... do it. Get a huckabeeny with the little propeller on top... it fits the maturity level of huckster and his huckabillies. huck is such trash as a man and huck is a deceiver and a false prophet. You, your compadres and huckster act like anything but Christians... and it adds to the stench of a thousand other things that are dis-likable about his campaign.

I have concerns about how his supporters are being treated though. They are no different from most of us here. They just want what they feel is best for our country.
