It would appear that there is more at play than just republicans versus democrats.

Huckabee going after left and right wing populists.
Paul going after left and right wing extremists
McCain going after left and right wing moderates.

And if that doesn't cover all the bases, Bloomberg will enter the race seeking a cross-over vote.

It has become the left and the right against the middle.
