Question 5 — How satisfied are you with the field of Republican candidates?

* Very satisfied — 10%
* Somewhat satisfied — 41%
* Somewhat unsatisfied — 31%
* Very unsatisfied — 18%

That sums up the situation. You can ask all these questions about choosing a candidate, but half the respondents don’t care for ANY of the candidates.

Actually GOPUSA claim it is their own separate poll of about 2500 conservative volunteers.

i doubt it would be hard to find 2500 conservatives who go to that website.

"Conservatives? McCain is no Conservative. From Taxcuts to the War to Judges his whole strategy has been to be as Liberal as possible and stay in the GOP"

For once, I totally agree with you.

McCain would be just as big of a disaster as Julie.

Yes, the borders are the all important issue and how I will vote.

That leaves out most of the Republicans and all of the Democraps.

If we don’t get someone who tackles the border problem, I’m writing in “Bullwinkle.”

"I can’t figure out why Thompson doesn’t show better in the overall GOP polls rather than in this conservative poll"

From comments after last night's debate, a large percentage like his ideas, but don't believe that he is in it to win. He is seen as Bob Dole #2.

Fred clearly won the SC debate.

Yes he did, but this survey is from BEFORE the debate.

“Duncan Hunter — 10%
Rudy Giuliani — 8%
Ron Paul — 7%
John McCain — 5%
Alan Keyes — 3%”

Hunter ahead of Rudy. I wish we had more time, but we can still win! This election is wide open, and things can change in a day.

I am furious that Hunter isn’t allowed to debate, when he quit college to fight in Viet Nam for our freedoms. It is outrageous.

I disagree. I think Senator Fred Thompson faired much better than Romney in the all-important area of ISSUES. Look at that survey again. He scores on every major issue. And in the end that IS what voters decide upon.

Moral issues are more important than GOPUSA gives credit: if you add the Survey components of Abortion, Moral Decline, and Government Corruption, the total is 17 percent. While still ranking third behind Security and Economics, Moral Issues are definitely on the mind of conservative Americans. That fact bodes well for Fred Thompson, and not so good for Mitt Romney, a man whom had little problem consistently supporting abortion and same-sex marriage — that is until he began his race for POTUS.

I lived in Massachusetts for half my adult life (47). Romney is an absolute fraud, a closet liberal — an empty suit. Good Business acumen does not translate into good moral character or sound leadership. Leadership is about maintaining one’s convictions — even when they are out of vogue with the pop culture elite: principle over popularism; substance over superficiality. Romney does not possess this quality, but rather, he fakes it with charm — just as did Bill Clinton. Romney is plastic, easily molding himself to fit whatever shape is politically expedient — just as did Bill Clinton. If you nominate Romney, you will get a Clinton clone.

A Jekel-Hyde persona is not what I want sitting in the most powerful office in the world. Romney is one of those typical Mass RINOs that claims himself “fiscally conservative - socially liberal.” However a man cannot ride two horses with one ass. Socially liberal policies cost money — taxes.

Governor Mitt Romney recategorized many MA state taxes as “fees” — and then raised them through the roof. He was AWOL on the Partial Birth Abortion Ban, as was the rest of the MA GOP.

When the Massachusetts State Legislature twice disenfranchised voters their signature initiative on a Defense Of Marriage Act by refusing its introduction on the statehouse floor, and thus its place on a ballot referendum — a clear violation of the State Constitution — Governor Mitt Romney did not lift a finger to restore the rights of his constituents.

Governor Romney was notorious in his gutting of gun-owners’ 2nd Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms, giving the liberals everything they asked for and more.

Mitt Romney is the last man on Earth I would desire as president. He would finish what the Bush Dynasty began: a dismantling of conservatism and the coupe-de-grace for the GOP. I hope conservatives are paying close attention — AND moreover, I hope for 2008 that they each have the memory of an elephant, rather than the temperament of a jackass.

Fred whacked Huck pretty good last night on the hot button issues for conservatives.
