If the latter, on to Fred for me.
If that fails, then a long period of quiet thinking, which will probably result in a vote for the Conservative Alternative rather than for either of the two Democrats in the General Election in November.

What you said goes for me as well.
Thompson is the dividing line for me. If any of the candidates except Fred and Hunter, all of whom are way to the left of Thompson and even farther left of Hunter, wins nomination I will vote for the minor party which comes closest to my views on the important issues. I will never again vote for a RINO no matter who the Democrat nominee is or how awful he or she may be.
After trying to figure out the weird dynamics that are driving voter choices in this campaign season on both sides, I gave up and have now arrived at the simple conclusion that people deserve the kind of officials they vote for. If you vote for a Democrat and he or she wins you deserve the screwing you will get from that Democrat, and if you vote for a RINO and he/she wins you likewise deserve what you will get. Which BTW will not be much different from what you would get from the Democrat if he/she wins.
Same for me. With lots of praying along the way.
