A tornado reportedly touched down in a residential area of Vancouver and there were reports of downed power lines, uprooted trees and roofs torn off houses, the Clark County sheriff's office, witnesses and news reports said.
Utility officials said power to 1,200 customers was out.
Witnesses told radio and television stations a tornado touched down in the Vancouver neighborhood Hazel Dell.
There were no reports of injuries. The extent of damage was unclear.
Pretty exciting breaking news on NWCN right now.
Holy schmoly
WA ping!
I guess I’m silly for making a big deal about this when there are really severe storms happening in the South... but this is pretty darn unusual for WA... and a pretty populated area.
It may have crossed I-5 right in Vancouver... Shopping carts flying around at Fred Meyer.
Hope one does not touch down on the bridge across the Columbia.
Also, numerous tornadoes with severe damage being reported today in Mississippi and Alabama.
Tornadoes can happen in all 50 states. Rare for Washington though. We get a few every year in Michigan but they usually aren’t big ones. We had a watch just the other day.

(sorry, I don’t know how to do tables)
Well, this was tiny for a tornado, by tornado standards, but in tall tree country, a small tornado is pretty severe for the people it happens to.
They’re showing a current funnel cloud reported in Troutdale... in the gorge.
I know... and was talking to a good friend in Alabama about her potential storms, when I'll be danged if the breaking news wasn't about a tornado here!
That’s about ten miles from me. First I heard of it was on FNC, it rained here pretty good but not much wind. I just hope no one was injured.
There were tornadoes in Wisconsin the other day as well. Very unusual. Don't tell uncle Al(gore). He'll be out touting his elixir again.
Yeah, we dodged a bullet today. It kinda split and went around us, at least hear at work. Now home may be another story. Won’t know ‘til I get there, but I haven’t heard from any relatives so I’m assuming everything’s ok.
A severe tornado strikes Vancouver, Washington, killing six and injuring more than 300, on April 5, 1972.
At about 12:51 p.m. on April 5, 1972, a severe (category F3) tornado strikes the eastern part of Vancouver, Washington. The tornado demolishes the Peter Skene Ogden Elementary School, then sweeps through the Sunrise Bowling Lanes and the Waremart Discount Store. Six people are killed and over 300 are injured. Property damage exceeds $5 million.
Something about Vancouver...
They have a semi truck that got flipped over on TV now... Lots of trees down.
It wasn’t caused by your night of beers and burritos was it?
During a La Nina, Tornadoes can occur during the winter months. It sets up a colder northwest and warmer southeast. There has been a string of very strong Pacific Storms pounding the Northwest. That has been unusual. These storms are also causing problems for the Midwest. Hey, during an El Nino event we even occasionally get tornadoes in Southern California, but they are so small you can go out and watch them.
Oregon is covering it live from KATU.
Freaky Friday er Thursday.
Whole side of a building had its bricks ripped off, roofs ripped off, cars flying around ect ect.
This is a very strange system for the PNW.
Had a fellow here on the coast get zapped by lightning the other day.
Washington getting the brunt.
Lotsa hail and thunder bumpers.
Severe Thunderstorm watch and 58 mph winds.
Not cool to have a tornado come through a water saturated area.
