Why Even Hardened Racists Will Vote for Barack Obama (BARF ALERT!)
Advertising Age ^ | 1-7-2008 | Bob Garfield

Posted on 01/10/2008 6:04:15 AM PST by toddlintown

A few years back, a relative was visiting from out of town and showed us a snapshot. It was his son posing with a new acquaintance. Big smiles all around. The acquaintance was a priest. And he was black.

Why carry around this otherwise unremarkable photo and make a show of it?

Because the son is a five-alarm racist, and so is his dad -- the guy proudly displaying the snapshot. The subtext here -- about one micron below the surface -- was: "See? A black friend!"

What edge? Acceptably black means being nonthreatening to white people inclined to feeling threatened by black people. It means standard English, clean-cut appearance (or, as Joe Biden fumbled, "clean") and the most Caucasian features possible. These obviously are not objective measures of character or worth; just as obviously, they are measures of what sells to the vast, white audience. Halle Berry and Denzel Washington are acceptably black. Your local news anchors are acceptably black. Tupac was not.

Hmmm. Can anyone think of any differences (besides the author's "caucasianness" of features) between Halle Berry and Tupac Shakur?

And how does Clarence Thomas fit into the author's little psychodrama? Very black features. But constantly being accused of being an Uncle Tom?

I would classify this turd as another racists enabler and a hate speech writer.

How come it is that todays most modern day racists and enablers reside in the NeoDemocrat Party as they did back in the last hundred and fifty years?

and invoked the concept of acceptable blackness, that's when he flinched and felt the need to point out Obama's sterling political credentials.

And that would be????? Not even two years in the Senate, which the vast majority of that time has been consumed running for the Presidency???? Since when is running for the Presidency by itself considered 'sterling political credentials"???

So now--when I don't vote for Obama because I disagree with him on every policy position--you get to assume I'm racist? Good thing we live in a society where a man can be judged on the content of his character, not the color of his skin. –CHRIS BERGMAN, CAPE CORAL, FL

BINGO!

Perhaps. Although, I would almost equate calling Obama 'acceptably black' is a kin to calling him an Uncle Tom.

Halle Berry has one black parent. As do/did Bob Marley, Slash of Guns and Roses, and Tiger Woods. They don’t all have black skin. Does this mean that some of the people on this list are “more black” than others?

The implication is also being made that if you vote AGAINST Obama it boils down to his skin color and not his socialist rhetoric.

I guess he was elected in 2004 not 2006, but that is still barely 4 years in the Senate, with almost two years consumed by running for the Presidency.

The word 'racist' gets thrown around and tossed out so easily and frequently these days, by people on all sides of the political spectrum, that it has really lost all impact and meaning.

I thought of a bumpersticker slogan for Barack. Obama: Not too black.

You know, I like decent people no matter their color. I just don't find too many on the left, politicians mostly, to be decent. I believe it was Obama, someone on radio pointed out the other day, couldn't even support a bill that would have given care to babies born alive after an abortion. Not trying to turn this thread into an abortion one, but how can a person be considered decent that thinks like that? How can a so called family man go along with something like that? I don't know how anyone with kids could think that's okay. Life is good for his kids but not others.

It has lost its sting—same thing with what the feminists and “wolf criers” have done to the word rape.

Nope, doesn't explain New Hampshire.

Rats are the biggest racists in the country. They voted for Obama in Iowa where the Klieg lights were on them. But let them scurry behind a drawn curtain where no one can see how they're voting, as in New Hampshire, and the true racist in them really comes out.

If they're white males, the answer is also easy--because they are sexists!

It's a tough year to be a Democrat, and to have to choose between being a racist if you don't vote for Obama, and being a sexist if you don't vote for Hillary. Fortunately Richardson is dropping out, so they don't have to bear the added burden if being anti-Latino if they don't vote for him.

Technically, yes. The point I was trying to make is that Tupac Shakur was a gangster. Halle Berry is not. I really don't care what color a gangster is. He's not acceptable to me. If Tupac is an example of "not White enough," then I guess someone just has to be whiter for them to be OK with me. And if Halle Berry were a gangster, I don't care if she's a babe.

OTOH, in politics, its the ideology, stupid (the author, not you). Obama is a hard-left-wing ideologue and HRC is a gangster. Clarence Thomas is not. Obama and HRC are not acceptable to me. Thomas is. It isn't really that complicated.

My guess is that the only black people this writer gets exposed to, wait on him when he stops into McDonalds.

I'd also guess that the only conservatives that he gets exposed to, exist in his own mind. Where they are all bigoted and unenlightened and safely ensconced.

When I bought my house, I had one of my in-laws inform me that I should not buy one in a neighborhood that had lots of, erm, "African-Americans" (although that was not the term he used) living in it. They were unkempt and lazy and would steal me blind, he confidently predicted.

This gentleman is a lifelong Dem. I am going to have a blast watching these Southern Dems tie themselves in knots trying to find reasons not to vote for Obama.

And, it should be added, that I live in a mixed neighborhood and have not been stolen blind, yet. The only problem that I've had is there's a Vietnamese family that lives across from me, they cook outside a lot, and it smells DELICIOUS! Horrible torture for me when I'm working in the yard.

The article has the ring of “I know what I’m talking about because I’m a racist”.
