Once We Get Out of Iowa and New Hampshire, the GOP Race Begins

RUSH: Now, I want to remind all my Republican friends that there are many states after Iowa and New Hampshire where the Republican populations are far more indicative of the conservative base, and to get caught up in what happened in Iowa, to get caught up in what's going to happen in New Hampshire as though they're the only two states that matter and that they're going to determine the fallout on both parties is a little bit over the top.

sorry sparky..... WJC lost the first 6 primaries in 1992, according to Terry McCaulie today. yes, he DID COME IN SECOND IN NH but he didn’t come in first in the first six primaries.

Iowa and NH - and open primaries with their free crossover voting - are almost irrelevent now in 08.

That's absurd. Nothing different is occurring in Iowa or New Hampshire that hasn't been occurring for the past 30 years.

"When Ron Paul pulls 8 percent vs Thompson’s 1 percent, I want nothing to do with NH or NE."

The only reason that Thompson is doing so poorly in NH is because he announced his run on Leno rather than participating in the first NH debate. He also belittled the debate while on Leno to boot.

NH voters took this personally and are not voting for him.

It has nothing to do with the relative merits of Ron Paul and Fred Thompson.

SC is so important for Fred, he needs to win SC.

Whoever wins SC likely will win the nomination.

I stated THE REPUBLICAN nominee has either won NH or Iowa every year since 1976 when Iowa became a major player in the election process.

If McCain were running on a genuine conservative agenda he'd be focusing on South Carolina for example, but he's not.

Rush is right, as usual.

Just common sense.

Look at past winners in Iowa and NH, and it is obvious it means nothing.

How did President Buchanan, Tsongas and Harkin admins work out? LOL

McCain is hoping for the MSM bump he hopes he will get! These polls become the news. Liberal states plus a liberal media...what would any Conservative expect?

I personally expected more of FoxNews! They would have lost me completely, however, I want to see the look on their faces when this turns around in FRED’s favor!

FRED THOMPSON - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERIENCE (I’ll protect the American people and American values, whatever it takes to stop the Islamic-Fascists including water-boarding!) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (“Individual” rights to protect their homes and property!)

INCREASE THE MILITARY’S STRENGTH AND SIZE (Diplomacy through Strength and verification!)

SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (Don’t give sanctuary anywhere to illegal’s; don’t employ illegal’s; don’t rent to illegal’s; don’t extend credit to illegal’s; don’t give illegal’s rights they have no right to; report all crimes committed by illegal’s to ICE and immediately deport those illegal’s who have already committed crimes against America!) LAW AND ORDER (Enforcement of our current laws regarding illegal immigration!) – DENY FEDERAL DOLLARS TO SANCTUARY CITIES (Enough is enough!)

CONSERVATIVE JUSTICES FOR SUPREMES (Great progress has been made on the Supreme Court in Bush’s term. FRED was asked by President Bush to spirit Justice Roberts through the confirmation process. The next President will probably have the opportunity to seat two additional Justices. This is huge folks. FRED will nominate Justices who will interpret the Constitution, not create rights that simply do not exist and legislate from the bench!) – PRO-LIFE ADVOCATE (will strive to nominate superior Justices with the eventual goal of overturning Roe vs Wade)

SOCIAL SECURITY REFORMER (Social Security is an entitlement program that will soon overtake the budget. The program can’t sustain itself and will bankrupt future generations; FRED has detailed proposals to save Social Security and provide the added benefit of private savings accounts for younger workers!)

DEFEAT ANY DEMOCRAT OR RINO (Close your eyes and imagine the first debate between FRED THOMPSON and ANY liberal DemocRAT they put up?)

TAX SIMPLIFICATION (Reform and perhaps eliminate the IRS with a variety of choice for the tax payer!)

EDUCATION (Return education to the States. It is that simple. The NEA is the greatest enemy of our educational system!)

WON’T PUT UP WITH TRUTH MANIPULATION FROM THE DB-MSM (including stupid questions by liberal moderators, and “purchased” political pundits)

FRED THOMPSON IS THE “WE THE PEOPLE” CANDIDATE (We the People asked him to set aside his personal life and step up one more time for his Country…and he stepped up!)

THIRD IN IOWA, SECOND IN WYOMING - 3 DELIGATES!(MSM still calling it a tie with McCain’s name in the lead…FoxNews won’t even mention his name if they can find a way to avoid it!)

FRED HAS 3 DELIGATES!

McCain is no front-runner in S.C. - last time around they didn’t much like him.

S.C. is Huckabee’s to lose, and it’s “finish strong or die” for Thompson....if Fred doesn’t manage to get into 2nd place there, preferably 1st...the only thing left is to hang around til the money runs out and hope McCain shoots himself somewhere along the way.

I’m not a supporter of the Huckster but the RCP average has him sitting on a double digit lead.

Sure, but that has nothing to do with my point.
You are correct. - Nothing is different there.

It is the rest of the country that has changed the primary landscape.

Huckabee isn’t going to win Florida, NY, California, or Texas.

Even with the delegate penalties, add those numbers up.

Of course he won’t.

I was answering a specific point about McCain being in good shape in S.c.

not making predictions on the nominee.

It is curious that nobody even mentions Rudy anymore.
Interesting days ahead, to be sure.

You need to recheck RCP. Huckabee is in serious contention in Florida. Texas is'nt on the radar.

And who do you think will win in the leftist NY or CA? According to FReepers and other establishment Republicans, isn't Huck the third most left candidate, behind only Rudy and McCain? If they are no longer in it after SC and Florida, who do you think can beat Huckabee in NY or CA?
