The democratic election process works better when all citizens are involved. That includes monetary contributions. Name me the last POTUS in recent history who self funded his campaign and won the election.
This is all a moot point, however. Romney is not gonna win the nomination. Thank God.
I can’t think of a presidential candidate. Unfortunately, we have a system that generally requires politicians to rely on contributions from others to make it through.
In my view, that requirement (not legal but very real) is bad, as it prevents the common citizen from seeking office.

Ah, that’s the error in your analysis. Romney is not really self-funding but added his own funds to a campaign that has raised more money than anyone but Rudy.
