The sad thing is with Thompson is that if he had entered much earlier - he would almost certainly have been the candidate.

I think that is a great shame. The whole will he/won’t he and then the wait for the inevatable detracted from what would have been his push to the top of the polls.

Whoever was calling the shots on his behalf really is an absolute disgrace.

(and for the record, I am not personally backing Fred although I would have had absolutely no problem supporting him should he win the nomination although I think it is highly unlikely now).

Of course we all want Fred. But we’re gonna be stuck with McCain, b/c Huckabee is even more unacceptable — and would be an absolute Goldwater-style disaster in November.

Huckabee’s vote in every state is a vote that otherwise would mostly go to Romney. Huck is destroying Romney and any likelihood of a GOP nominee who can hold the 3 GOP components together - economic, social, defense.

Thanks again, Iowa, for giving us John McCain as the GOP nominee.
