There are some on Free Republic that oppose Romney specifically because they are afraid his election would legitimize Mormonism

There are many, but few who will admit it.

Don’t feel too singled out because of the anti-Mormon diatribes, I actually had one of the anit-Mormons tell me that he wouldn’t vote for Romney or that papist, Rudy Giuliani.

I’m not a Mormon, or a Catholic, but this religious bigotry really turns me off. These same people will be the first to complain about the secular, anti-Christmas campaign.

To not support a man based solely on his religion is not what American’s are about. That’s liberal, identity politics garbage and we’re better than that. That’s embarrasing.

I would like to ask a question that keeps nagging me. Is Romney as a Mormon any more of a threat to the evangelical church than someone who attends the Methodist like Hillary, Baptist like Carter, church of what’s happening now church like Obama, whatever the other Republicans claim to attend? Do they agree with evangelicals on how to live our lives, govern our country just because they are NOT Mormon? I know the answer but I am trying to pinpoint the concern with Romney being a Mormon other than totally being against the Mormon church.
