Very Sad.

"Hilton, 61, remains in custody after being charged with kidnapping and bodily injury, both felonies."

Bodily injury? That's quite an understatment!

The elderly couple whose deaths Hilton is suspected in had each other. Cell phones often don’t work real well in the mountains - I can’t get a connection most of the time in the sizable town my family is from.

Concealed carry - sounds better all the time.

While I agree with you, the criminal is ultimately the one who is responsible. Sadly, people like this have been around since creation and unfortunately, evil seed will continue to spawn as time goes on.

What a shame. It reminds me of the case of the gal who was helping on a survey or mapping expedition up in the Colorado mountains who ran into a monster camping up there.

Legend has it that the streams turned red from blood during the battle.

It is a beautiful area in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

I was telling my brother who is a detective, she went hiking in a popular place, not desolate at all. You have your dog and you see and elderly man with his dog. Most people would not feel threatened by an old man with a dog. Dog people are notorious for striking up conversations with other dog people. Witnesses saw them talking and the dogs playing off leash in an open space. Even the fact that the old guy had the baton can be easily written off. Many people walk their dogs with sticks or other things to ward off other animals. Even a gun or pepper spray would not have saved her if she did not feel threatened, all she had to do was turn her back on him to put the leash on her dog for instance and he hit her in the head.

I am sick about this whole thing. How evil this man is. I believe I would have spoken to him as well. I think we will find out he is a serial killer.

Prayers for her family and may Meredith rest in peace.

"I would like to have a minute alone with the accused, provided he is found guilty. Just me and my .45."

I can see you're an amateur at this....

A .45 is too impersonal, fast and relatively kind to the corpse...

For a guy like this, a baseball bat, swung at full force to every part of the body EXCEPT the head ---- is a lot more suitable, painful, drawn out, gratifying and gives the perp a LOT of time to realize and contemplate what's happening and why.

Plus a lot can be said for the positive aspects of the exercise it provides to the "batter"....

I hope women learn not to hike alone from this horrible story, just as women should learn from the Marshall U. murder not to go to a dark basement alone to do laundry.

I have no desire to be cruel, really. I just want vermin like this to be extinguished. So, a .45 with loaded with +P JHP's will do just fine for me. What I do not want to see is the usual spectacle of ACLU defense loy-yuhs fighting every single prosecution motion, even those that are simply procedural. We have a case like that now here in NH. A Manchester police officer - Michael Briggs - wonderful guy, family man - was murdered by a career criminal. The killer is now defended by a team of tax-funded John Edwards-level scumbags, who will not only drag out the case for years, but cost the taxpayers millions of dollars in the process.

I just read a couple days ago, that our tax dollar pays for the ACLU attorneys, too! Now, how much lower can our hard earned money go? This really makes me cringe.

“I hope women learn not to hike alone from this horrible story”

I wouldn’t hike in the wilderness unless I was actually with a group of adults. Seriously.

At least the victim is safe beyond pain, and hopefully in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Sadly, her family will suffer greatly until they’re finally laid to rest alongside her.

Too quick. Tie him down next to a fire ant mound, and let them slowly eat away his flesh.

Meredith Emerson should have taken an NRA Refuse to be a Victim course.

One is taught to carry OC Pepper Spray.

It also protects against bears.

This is where I will let no one argue with me on whether the death penalty is painful or fair..or even humane.

It is called for and just.

"To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is both sinful and tyrannical."

What do you suppose Jefferson would have thought about forced taxation used to promote the defense of career criminals who prey upon the families of such men?
