It seems that whenever I read something about The Lone Star State (oftentimes here at Free Republic) it's about something GOOD happening there, and this is no exception.  When a paper pulls a stupid Leftist stunt like this and then gets absolutely inundated by emails and letters, 95% of which are negative, it really makes me proud to be an American and it REALLY makes me want to visit Texas   :-)

There were several threads here at FR when the original Dallas Morning News item appeared, and here they are for your convenience:

2007 DMN Texan of the Year The Illegal Immigrant

2007 DMN Texan of the Year The Illegal Immigrant (BARF ALERT)

Dallas Morning News names “illegal immigrant” the 2007 “Texan of the year”

And here's the AP version of the reaction:

Paper Blasted for 'Texan of the Year' { DALLAS MORNING NEWS }

Huckabee would call these 95% of the Texan public racists no doubt.

the group - that has roiled this state and nation

A bit off-topic, but "roil" seems to be the Drive-By Media's word du jour lately. I must have seen it used in various circumstances about 25 times this week.

He is going to have an awfully tough time when he gets out of those blue states......

Be careful mentioning that - you don’t want to get them all roiled up...

Texas is a GREAT state. I am honored to have lived there long enough to have been called “A Texan” by other true Texans.

It is a very proud bunch with a unique culture. Character of the citizens, compassion, logic and, yes, honor is the order in Texas.

I hope Texas stays that way for ever.

(unfortunately, there are liberal enclaves, as is the case in any big state with cities)

Hey Morning News Team - why don’t you change your logo to an upraised middle finger. Tell your customers what you really think if them.

LMAO

I would imagine that one of their leftist deities at the NYT used it in a Bush-bashing editorial and so they pay homage to him / her by adopting that word, which may be new and stylish to many of them  :-)

Round up ALL illegals and send them packing back to from where they came.
If a politician supports them then throw his or her ass out of office.
NO retreat.
Amnesty is b.s.

Like the Time Man of the Year, I don't think they're talking about the Best Texan of the year, just the biggest news maker.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that either award was supposed to be an "honor".

If it's a publicly-held company that owns the paper and if the editorial board continues with this sort of garbage, the stockholders will have quite a bit to say about it.

No business that intentionally infuriates 95% of it's customers should be allowed by it's stockholders to stay in business.

If it's a privately held company, they will just keep losing subscribers and advertisers and eventually be forced to sell it off, hopefully to an owner that actually understands Texas and has an interest in serving it's citizens.

"To us, it means somebody who lives here, or who has lived here, or who has spent considerable time here - somebody who's affected Texas in some major way."

I've never lived in Texas, but I spent two nights in a Holiday Motel in Orange, does that make me a Texan?

That's just awful.

It's things like this that can cause decent people to take up arms.

Hopefully the fence will be finished soon.

Isn’t Iowa red?

A few days ago Rush described both Iowa and New Hampshire as Liberal states....that's what I was meaning to refer to.

Perhaps the Huckster would be more at home in high-cotton serving on the Editorial board of the DMN. At least they have something very much in common it would seem.
