McALLEN — At least two people were killed when gunfire erupted downtown in the Mexican border city of Rio Bravo on Monday.
Gunfire rang out four separate times between civilians and Mexican troops, witnesses and municipal police said.
Two bodies were seen being taken from the scene of three shot-up vehicles Monday afternoon, The Monitor in McAllen reported in its online editions.
Witnesses said two Mexican soldiers and one Federal Police officer were also injured from grenades and gunfire earlier Monday. One soldier was transported to a hospital in Reynosa for treatment, witnesses said.

After the shootings, military vehicles and armed Mexican soldiers were seen patrolling downtown streets.
Monday morning, a 20-minute shootout took place in front of the Rio Bravo police station, said Police Chief Adan Nava Correa, working his first day on the job. His officers were not involved in the shooting, he said.
Correa said there were at least three other gunfights in the city Monday, though no information was available on who was involved.
The violence came slightly more than a month after former Rio Bravo Mayor Juan Antonio Guajardo Anzaldua and five others were killed by gunmen outside a downtown restaurant. After that incident, Mexican President Felipe Calderon sent troops to restore peace.
All this violence in Mexico is not possible, since they have very strict gun laws.
/is it really necessary?
Dodge is THE car or truck down there, lol. Each time I make the 4 hour trip down to the border I pass many, many single and double ‘cars in tow’ being taken to Mexico to be fixed up.
I wonder how many of them had clear titles.;-)

Lol, was a neat town. You should see their ‘mall’. It’s different! It was a 25 minute drive from Nuevo Progresso on a desolate road.
I think Chrysler has an assembly plant somewhere in Mexico.
