I am surprised he has an overnight stay. Short procedure units are now the norm. My relative had a polyp removed after it was discovered on a routine colonoscopy. He went home and within hours said he felt poorly. He went to the bathroom and had blood pouring out. He called his wife and she has never seen so much blood all over the place. He fell on the floor due to weakened condidtion. She got him into the car and to the ER fast. She did not want to wait for EMTs. When she got to the ER they took sweet time working him up and when they wheeled him to the room there was a blood trail . That set his wife off and she told them in plain english to get going on her husband, time was an issue and if they did not she would raise hell. He needed to be back in surgery to fix the bleed asap. He lost almost all of his blood. He was unconscious and had his wife fighting tooth and nail to get him the care he needed. One thing for sure, when in a hospital setting for surgery, you need an advocate. A spouse, sister or relative to ask questions and get involved.
The MD that did the emergency surgery was covering for the surgeon that had performed the original work. He could not fix the problem and the poor guy had to go through another surgery when they found the surgeon. Meanwhile he received blood and went through hell. He is fine today but no thanks to certain members of the ER and fill in MDs. This was in Florida. It could be worse Mr Beck.
