Great take on Hunter JM. A lot of us think the same thing. That the DBM has made a concerted effort to keep all the true conservatives,Hunter Fred and Tancredo out of the lime light as much as possible. So far it has worked. The New Media have done little to counter them, a huge mistake, IMHO.Both your observations are accurate, but it could be a bit more ominous than simply a mistake. What is being revealed by the tacit omission, and often deliberate distortion, by New Media figures who are ostensibly on "our side", of coverage and discussion of the genuinely conservative candidates is that many of our putative conservative "champions" in the New Media may simply be more or less "market opportunists" rather than dedicated true believers in conservative values.
Without mentioning specific names, there are several of the so-called New Media conservative pundits who have always given me the impression that they simply saw a market niche where they could establish a career and a name for themselves in the "big game" of national politics and make good money flacking conservatism.
And THAT is pretty much the limit of the depth of their conservative convictions. It is far more important to these types to maintain their Beltway cred as "players" by focusing on the political horse-race than it is for them to sincerely advocate conservative and Constitutional ideas and principles.
This election will be extremely revealing, probably painfully so. It will reveal whether or not the American populace has been sufficiently dumbed-down and doctrinally re-educated for them to allow their freedom, their rights and in fact their very nation to be snatched away from them by their own leaders and government. It will also reveal that, as noted above, many of our supposed allies in the conservative movement were never more than exploitive opportunists.

Exactly tarheel, I count the real people/true conservatives as Hannity,Rush, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and others who really believe and are not afraid to express opinions in favor of conservatives. Yes I include Hannity.
There are others who may be fast buck men we just don't know, time will tell.

Good point...and I will go a bit further and state that question was somewhat settled in 1992 as to the power of charismatic nobody candidates, serious character flaws notwithstanding.
As many of us have predicted in these fora, even the once anointed Hillary is now in deep if not fatal trouble because the emotional and superficial majority is once again being seduced by a brand new empty suit whose negatives are as few as his substantive policy positions. Obama is made to order, and I mean that in the most literal sense, for an electorate in which most have not yet come to terms with the dangers at our door
And the Pubs may fare no better against their latest iterations of the smooth talking snake oil salesman with the ability to convince the fat part of the bell curve that he has something better to offer, even if he can't exactly state what that is.
American politics, had it not descended to the basic story line of the Three Little Pigs, ought to be serving up a Hunter or a Thompson in these dangerous times. Instead we are most likely going to receive another helping hot air, coiffured hair, and the rest of the gimcrack that the "process" dredges up with such regularity these days.
