Charity for the Greek CHARIS implies one gives something with absolutely no expectation of anything in return, an outward grace, including respect or thanks, completely void of anything of indebtedness. Institutional giving attempts to quantify the need in providing the gift, but in so doing implies a false economy which begs the question of true charity.
