Fred's had more to do with television than a lot of other politicians.

He came to prominince with the televised Watergate hearings, and he's acted in films and a television show.

But he comes across as a very old-fashioned campaigner from before the era of modern media -- a politician not so different from those of two generations ago.

That may be where the disappointment comes from.

Pure hit piece.

Reaganw as 2nd in Iowa. Bubba got single digits in Iowa.
Bush 41 was third.

Iowa is about as meaningful as a Ouija board.

Why aren't they slamming Rudy for his dismal numbers?

I hate the MSM.

Fred did way better then they thought and he will continue to do so.

“I don't think it’s just his late entry -- that is just a symptom of the problem,” Lebo says. “The problem is that he has never shown a willingness to fight for conservative causes. Believing in those causes isn't enough. There should be some evidence that you are willing to do something about it.”

What about all of his white papers and policy proposals? If that's not "willing to do something about it" then nothing is.

The punditocracy purposely forgets that it was the democrat campaign machinery that launched the too early campaigning and that Fred’s entry was at the traditional time of past campaign seasons. That same ocracy will fail to see that American Conservatives actualy like such an attitude until Jan 19th is counted. Thaompson and Hunter are the ONLY electable conservatives running for the nomination. If pubbies nominate a liberal like Romney or Huckster, or a clueless Washington fool like McPain or Julie Annie, the nation will tipp over into the liberal cesspool never to rise again.

The title is ironic for me because it's been awhile since I've basically taken the position of: "Goodbye, Townhall.com."

It's always been a clumsy and cumbersome forum with regard to posting and reading posts. The one Townhall place I've gone with any regularity has been Hugh Hewitt's site, and that's also been a real eye-opener politically. Down deep, I always had the sense that Townhall's creators saw Jim's Free Republic and what it could do and how it drew people together in an exciting and dynamic chorus of conversations, and said, "Thanks, Jim, we'll take it from here." I think they expected to dominate and figured that since they were professionals, they'd do better.

They were wrong.

Using the Iowa caucuses to predict anything is stupid. Ronald Magnus Reagan himself came in SECOND in Iowa in 1980. George Bush, Sr came in THIRD in 1988 and went to to take the oath of office as President the next January. Bill Clinton came in FOURTH in 1992 and went to to claim the Presidency. The Iowa caucuses are about as accurate a predictor of the nominee as a monkey at a typewriter.

So, the near-term question for Fred Thompson isn't if he drops out of the race but when.

He'll stay in at least until the So. Carolina primary (Jan. 19th). Gotta win there or it's over. Wouldn't count him out just yet, though.

This is way too early to be issuing obituaries for any politician. This business is fickle and will shine on someone on any given day, then drench them on another.

Never count out a politician until they've been embalmed and planted.

Dear pissant,

You’re just mad because you backed the all-time loser of losers, Duncan Hunter.

Don’t go away mad, pissant. Just go away.

Fred is still my guy but I was disappointed that he took today off from campaigning and went to Virginia.

He can still have a shot at the nomination is he comes in 1st or 2nd in South Carolina. The race is still wide open.

Thompson made two serious mistakes.

He botched the abortion stance over and he botch the FMA in order to protect marriage. Essentially he opened the door for huckabee to just walk in and take those issues over on him.

Thompson does not get the free air time and the effete elites don’t like him personally so he is done.

Did anyone see the interview of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson on FNC? (YES! GASP! Fox news channel!)

They did have Ducey doing the interview so it was not a serious news interview. Guess the news template has to be otherwise protected, but the Thompsons were 100% on message and did not have any question throw them off.

I just loved the part where Ducey asks some irrelevant question and Mrs. T takes it strait to the illegal immigration issue.
