If the price is right, I will sign up. I would have to get a significant break on cost, though.
Ah, that's the rub. No price break. Just the "assurance" that if enough people sign up, everyone's cost will go down. Basically, that means that when everyone cranks their AC up when it gets over 100F, I get to offset that, by having my thermostat lowered. But hey, I get to feel good because I'm "making a difference for the environment" (i.e. the power company's bottom line).
Incidentally, they also have a program where you can pay $25-50 extra a month to have the power company buy an interest in a wind farm. That way you can feel good about being more carbon-neutral.
The price doesn’t have to be “right”. You can save money entering into this program if they just increase prices for those who DON’T enter into this program.
