I myself was raised not to use the Lord’s name in vain. When I say the Lord, people know whom I’m talking about, I don’t have to name drop it like some Hollywood portrayal of a ‘Christian.’ But this, of course, makes me not a Christian in your opinion.
And this was most explicitly why the framers of the Constitution put forth the establishment clause, so that no one could come forward, in the guise of government, and say ‘You’re not a Christian because you didn’t do ‘this’’. It’s not a separation of church and state, it’s a separation of elitist from the power to determine someone’s faith.
I remember a day not so long ago when hate wasn’t part of the Christian ethos, where if you felt someone was off the path of righteousness, you’d lead them back through example. Instead we’ve the worst kind of religious bigotry; that of moral superiority.
