Fred Thompson entered the Republican presidential campaign later than any candidate.
The article doesn't get off to a good start. Alan Keyes entered the GOP race last.

More anti-Fred rhetoric. Give it up already buddy. See you at the polls. Be prepared to bring a diaper when you crap your pants after the results, and a bib for that big helping of crow you are going to be served.

Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is in third place in the Republican race at 11 percent

Not too bad for starting late, I'd say.

Explain how pointing out the fact that Alan Keyes entered the race after Fred is “anti-Fred rhetoric” or get back on the short bus.

I’ve never made an anti-Fred comment, I’ve only pointed out where Fred is failing, why articles like this one need to be written in the first place. If Fred had been running the campaign he ought to be, then the title of this article would have been “No Stopping Thompson As He Cruises To Early Victory.” People like you seem to think the best way to help someone is to let them continue destroying themselves. I don’t. Fred’s campaign has been in need of an intervention for a long time.

But regardless, that is all for a different thread. Nothing in my first post could be construed as “anti-Fred”. It just goes to show that many around here are little more than vacuous knee-jerk automatons without a brain to engage.

Who on the morning show?
Did Brian Kilmeade say “I think Thompson is going to come in 2nd” during some light Iowa banter?
Because that would hardly live up to your billing.
That would be great if it happens, though.
That would give his campaign a second chance if it did.

If Fred Thompson were to bail out after Iowa, then he indeed doesn't have the steel to be POTUS. Iowa is a great first exposure and a chance to test the candidates and their organizations, but that's all it is. Let's say he ties for fourth a few points behind McCain and says "no mas". Good. Get out. Quitting after the first round would would be proof enough for me that he actually does lack fire in his belly, whatever that means.

But, I hope he's in it to win it. In this horse race, he's the best chance to have conservative principles governing the Presidency and being expressed to the rest of the country and to the world. President Fred Thompson delivering speeches to the nation, especially after having suffered through 8 years of Bush's, would be fantastic.

I was walking by the tv when one of the morning guys ( did not show him talking had picture of Fred up and I do not watch enough to identify voices ) was introducing Fred.

I did not hear much banter just that he said he expects Fred to finish 2nd today in Iowa.

I do not put much stock in any MSM but it surprised me to hear it.

So Fred said he expects to finish 2nd?
That sounds like wishful thinking and setting himself up for failure to me.
I have seen previously where Fred said he wouldn’t be satisfied by third, but never that he expects to do better than it.

I don’t think anyone is predicting a 2nd place finish for Fred, and they’re a fool if they are. Fred is polling at half of the Iowa top tier. Fred’s in a race with himself to remain viable. Fred, McCain, and Ron Paul are all in a statistical tie. It’s unlikely Fred can survive placing 4th to McCain. If he finished behind Ron Paul, then it is over for him. There is no recovery from that.

Steve Doocy was monitoring a Fox “Honorary Iowan” poll where viewers could ‘vote’. At first Fred was third but as the morning went on he came in a strong second! SURGE, FRED, SURGE! :-)
