GOP presidential hopeful Fred Thompson said in an in-studio interview with KCCI-TV in Des Moines that there is no truth to rumors that his campaign will fold before New Hampshire if he doesn't have a strong showing in Iowa.
"That is absolutely made up out of whole cloth," said the former U.S. Senator from Tennessee.
Thompson said a rival campaign was likely the source of that rumor.
"Can you imagine such a thing in politics?" he asked.
Thompson said his campaign is seeing a "surge" in interest right now, and said he has visited 50 communities in the Hawkeye State in the last couple weeks.
"I'm not going to play into any scenario that's not totally optimistic," he said.
Thompson touched on his plan for strengthening border security to prevent terrorist attacks, and his plan to simplify the tax code.
"Our tax code is a mess right now," he said.
Just saw Fred on CNN, great job, he will be on Fox and Friends in an hour. Fox and Friends just stated they are asking viewers to email their choice if they could vote tonight...”Fred Thompson has a huge lead.”
Bump
ROMNEY is a sleaze
$50 on the Romney Sleaze Machine as the source of the rumor.
Nice photo, I see the Huckabees sent junior a shirt. :)
Came from a rumor at “Politico”, huh? This whole season has been smears, rumors, innuendos, and blogs are the weapon of choice. Learn some HTML, think of lies, peint a web page - how authoritative!
I’ve been saying all along that blogs have replaced investigative journalism, which while crummy at time, is better than blogs. Blogs are undeserved self-importance.
I hear ya, Hank. I wouldn't go for Rudy, but the pickings are slim.
We really need FRED!
I suggest someone with authority and credibility here post an informative vanity thread that celebrates the pro-Fred surge that is bringing out all these disinformation dropping-out threads and discouragement from other campaigns and the pro-illegal immigration, anti-conservative press. Then we could keep it bumped through the day and it would reflect the positive news that it is.
Afraid of Fred? LOL! Fred's geriatric campaign couldn't scare anybody.
This idea is inconsistent with itself.
Fred's not in this for personal ambition, as all the media loves to quote and some mis-quote. If he thought Mclame was good enough to endorse, he'd have never started this in the first place.
Fred is not dropping out and he's not endorsing Mclame.
I am getting my Gold Foil hat on now
I heard a few posters saying that while on Rush’s thread yesterday...need to follow the trail.
That is great news.
Fred surge before the purge.
The religious part, maybe. The right part, no. Huckabee supporters may be religious, but they're not conservative. The one-note tune is playing so loudly, they can't hear the the rest of the sorry, liberal song.
Here’s the sad depressing thing about rumors. Sorry, make that “SOME” rumors. I am up too early with a cough this morning and I hear the local morning radio guys chatting and agreeing with each other that Fred is dropping out. They joked about his “few” supporters going to McCain, and how he never had fire in his belly — I was so frustrated with those STUPID talking points. If this is happening in L.A. it’s happening all over.
NO ONE is talking about any OTHER rumors. On the Dem side they have a 3rd-placer who may have gotten one of his campaign people PREGNANT and yet that rumor is quiet. But the rumor that Fred will bail basically tomorrow is EVERYWHERE. That HAS to discourage the Iowa Fred-leaners. ARGH!
