Fred Thompson may drop out (For any latecomers, it's baloney)

DES MOINES, Iowa – Several Republican officials close to Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign said they expect the candidate will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursday’s Iowa caucus.

Thompson needs a strong showing in Iowa to stay in this. He’s likely to take a beating in NH and if he gets ~10% in Iowa and follows that up with low single digits in NH noone will give him credit for a serious chance at the nomination.

For Thompson a decent 3rd would let him stay in it, a close 3rd would be a small victory, and a 2nd place would be huge for Thompson’s campaign. Especially if 3rd is Huckabee. Because he’s leading in the national polls expectations are extremely high for Huckabee’s campaign and if he gets 3rd, we’re going to see a deluge of articles with words like “disappointment” “stumble” “Dean re-run”.

Perhaps, but my online dealings with Jason Bonham have shown him to be a rather underhanded little punk who REALLY dislikes Fred Thompson, so I wouldn’t put anything past him. Not that Martin is any better...who knows...

I think it’s Romney though. And I think it’s Romney who’s behind those robocalls that are bashing Fred in IA. Someone with a lot of money doesn’t like the internal polls they’re seeing.

“Without a solid third-place finish, there’s no point in going on,” a Thompson adviser said Wednesday. “It was an honorable race, and he turned out to be a good candidate. The moment had just passed....”
No, he turned out to be a bad candidate, and his consultants turned out to be bad advisers pushing him to focus on a bad message. He was the only hope for the GOP, the conservative movement, and the country for the next 4 years, but he just didn't care enough to make it happen. The moment didn't pass, Fred let it pass him by. He balked. He never really did commit, and that's why no one committed to him. He's out of money, and likely out of time. And we're all out of luck. You'd think that with all of his acting experience he could have played the part of a candidate that gave a damn. He never did talk much about his experience or resume, he just talked about how conservative ol' Fred was. He may have had the most detailed policies and position papers, but he expected the voters to hunt them down and read them for themselves, instead of talking about his plan at the debates. Even when he had the opportunity to address the Iowa voters directly in his web message to Iowa, he rambled on aimlessly for 17 minutes instead of remaining focused and disciplined and cutting to the chase directly with his points and his credentials. Lets face it, he's been hopeless. He's run a campaign like someone who never wanted to be in the race, and I think he'll be glad the sooner he's out of it.

I started another thread with Thompson’s interview — where he said this was made up “out of whole cloth” and said a rival campaign was spreading the lie.

I really hope he endorses Romney. We need all the help we can get.

Fred will endorse the fellow he conspired with on campaign finance reform.

Man Rovian, this is the funniest bunch of hooey I have ever seen.

Fred is paid and filed into Super Tuesday, has cash on hand despite Ed Rollins trying to say he is broke and his support base among more than a few GOP power players is still going strong. Even if he tanks Iowa he is still in play because of how he was brought in and where that started. Indeed the real play goes in into Convention.

Damn this is getting funny as hell.

It’s fun to watch Romney flushing so much money down the toilet to win friggin Iowa. I hope he takes a beating for his efforts. As a matter of fact, my hope is that Romney and the Huckster totally destroy each other so they can get out of the way and make room for a conservative.

Yeah, we’ll see. Now that FRED has publically denounced this as a rumor started by an opposing candidate..gee, who might that be....couldn’t be your little ole Mitt could it...sounds like something a scumbag politician from Mass would do.

Yeah, but what else can you expect from this bunch of jokers?

I don’t know if Fred’s going to tank in Iowa or not, but it seems like he’s got a little momentum at the right time and it’s sure ticking someone off...

More rumors from everyone but Fred.

Funny how this kind of unsubstantiated stuff comes out just before the Iowa caucuses. One would almost think it's some kind of dirty trick.

Mitt is done....he is nothing but a rino John Kerry...flip flopping lying politician

Yes he is. And just think. Ten years ago, most of us didn't have a computer. We couldn't find out the truth - and had to rely on the MSM (TV and newspapers) for truthful information on the candidates.

Now, the internet is our expose. I am so greatful for that!
