ABU GHRAIB — Iraqi Police personnel traveled to Abu Ghraib warehouse to pick up 70 new vehicles, Dec. 31. The vehicles will be painted and transformed into patrol cars for the Iraqi Police Force throughout the country.

“The way this system works is that the different ministries of Iraq go out to assess and submit the requirements needed to fulfill a certain mission,” said U.S. Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer Edward Polzin, deputy site commander, Abu Ghraib warehouse. “The equipment requested is then ordered and sent here to the warehouse for staging and awaiting delivery or pickup for whoever placed the order.”

The lot which houses the vehicles can hold several thousand different types of vehicles and maintenance equipment. Currently, there are roughly 1500 vehicles waiting to be picked up or delivered from the site.

Today, 70 Iraqi Police personnel arrived here to drive 70 of those vehicles off the lot.

“We call it a ‘will-call’,” said Polzin. “It’s where the receiving party actually comes to the warehouse to receive their equipment.”

The ‘will-call’ is one way for the different ministries to collect their equipment. The warehouse will also load up the different material on trucks and can send them to any location in Iraq with the support of different convoy escort teams.

Abu Ghraib not only holds vehicles, but many other different items to include computers, ammunition, and supplies to stand up the different infrastructures throughout Iraq.

Not only who paid for those vehicles, but are any of them made in the USA? Or are we buying foreign trucks, when Detroit is in trouble?
