Well, I just don’t get this. Here 30 years — on a green card? What is the purpose of citizenship if someone can come here on a green card and stay 30 years? Is there no time limit on a green card that requires them to go back home and apply for citizenship? Can they come here on a green card and apply for citizenship? Or are these people really illegals overstaying? I am so sick of these blood suckers.

There are work "green cards" and then there are other sorts, family, etc. You can marry a brit, and have her live with you here, forever, without her giving up brit citizenship. There are always stories of some 80-year old Italian woman who came here as a child, legally, and never got citizenship, finally being naturalized. You can adopt your new french wife's child and have her live with you without her giving up her former citizenship -- and she'd be a "LEGAL PERMANENT resident."

I'm not sure that I see why a legal permanent resident, which can come about for any number of reasons, is a "blood-sucker." They're fully documented, and subject to all of our tax and other laws, including, e.g. draft registration, where appropriate (male).
