Maybe you were watching the SD ABC channel instead of the HD one? I watched the Rose Bowl in HD from the opposite coast over cable.

I think my local ABC affiliate (6 in Indianapolis) was only broadcasting the SD signal on the HD channel (6-1).

Both NBC and CBS seem to have fully converted to at least 720i in our area.
