DES MOINES – Republican candidates Fred Thompson, Ron Paul and Alan Keyes showed up at the Federation for American Immigration Reform talk radio row in Des Moines to talk about immigration policy, and surrogates for Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee made appearances.
But other Republicans – and all Democratic candidates – declined the opportunity, despite national television coverage from both Fox News and CNN.

Didn’t know Alan Keyes was running again???? Keyes seems to be showing up alot lately. He might be setting himself up for a VP nomination.

Seriously, I like the guy and his views. But, unfortunately, he has exactly zero chance of being elected as POTUS. He should try to run for Congress, perhaps as a stepping stone to the Senate later. That's it - he'll never progress further.
He did, at least twice, both times for the Senate. If memory serves, the first was in Maryland. The latest was in Illinois, where he lost to the clean-and-articulate Barack Hussein Obama. If memory serves, neither loss was anything anyone could term, "close."
Before he runs for the U.S. House or anything else, he'll have to decide where he lives.
Well, maybe he should stick to writing newspaper columns and books. It pays pretty well, and gets your views out there so that you can persuade people of your views. That puts anyone way ahead of 99.99% of the people out there, in terms of influencing public opinion and the direction of the nation. Very few people ever get into federal office, let alone the position of POTUS.
I base my humble opinion on polls, contributors, and crowds. I look at all the debates to determine a candidate’s mojo and unfortunately these candidates are lacking when you add up the total sum.

Thompson Iowa campaign office reporting: “Somebody said Rush said some things about Huckabee this morning, and things are just going crazy here, people are really responding.”
Thompson’s strategy for winning the nomination is to get third place in Iowa. He is on track to do that or better.
