OCEANSIDE ---- A pursuit suspect from Oceanside stopped his vehicle midspan on the Coronado Bridge, exited the car and jumped off the bridge at about 7:25 p.m.Monday, along with an Oceanside police dog that tried to stop him, according to California Highway Patrol officer Larry Landeros. The man lived, but the dog died.
The pursuit began in Oceanside at 6:44 p.m after police suspected the driver was intoxicated. During the pursuit, the man was involved in a hit-and-run crash, authorities said.Highway Patrol officers joined the pursuit southbound on Interstate 5 as the car approached the Coronado Bridge, Landeros said.
The police dog lunged at the suspect as he hesitated momentarily after exiting his vehicle. The dog, a German shepherd, and the suspect both fell and the dog's body has been recovered, Landeros said.

I might agree with you but the diffedrence is the guy made a choice and jumped, he didn’t fall.
Since the family dogs can’t easily be unkilled, I hope there aren’t more dead police dogs buying it to equal up the numbers and earn your oh-so-heartfelt-and-wonderful sympathy.
It’s just a stupid animal. If the police officer had hold of the guy when he jumped and didn’t have the sense to let go, we’d be talking about a dead cop now...
They trained the dog to hold on, even when the guy jumped into the water. Blame the trainer’s, don’t blame the guy who jumped off the bridge.
Not sure what your disagreement with what I said was. The dog died because it followed its training which did not allow it to release a hold.
I gotta admit, there ain’t a thing wrong with what you just said. If that was the kinda thing Gawain meant, then fine. God knows I have more than once not accurately typed out what was actually inside my scary lil head.
Good point. You read that tired crap all the time on here as well. I got news for you folks. TAXI DRIVERS HAVE A MORE DANGEROUS JOB THAN POLICE OFFICERS.
1st number is the death rate per 100,000 2nd number is total deaths
1 Logging workers 92.4 85
2 Aircraft pilots 92.4 109
3 Fishers and fishing workers 86.4 38
4 Structural iron and steel workers 47.0 31
5 Refuse and recyclable material collectors 43.2 35
6 Farmers and ranchers 37.5 307
7 Roofers 34.9 94
8 Electrical power line installers/repairers 30.0 36
9 Driver/sales workers and truck drivers 27.6 905
10 Taxi drivers and chauffeurs 24.2 67
Being a cop doesn’t rank as being rather dangerous,, my uncle died this last week , he was a NYPD retiree with 35 years ,, no lie ... the only time he got into a situation with shooting/guns was when he accidentally walked in on a robbery in progress when he was off duty...
I’m sick to death of this pointless hero worship, they are for the most part tools of liberal politicians and their politically appointed chiefs... I would respect cops a lot more if they exercised proper judgement in their decisions on what laws to enforce... or if they would get out of their air conditioned cruisers every now and then and got to know the people on their beat.
For the vast majority of automotive history, vehicles didn't even have seatbelts.
Whatever did we do?
Failing or refusing to pay the fine for non-seatbelt usage eventually turns into a crime and if it goes on long enough, the SWAT teams shows up and kills your dog.
I am so sorry that I found this late.
I have been laughing over your post for 15 minutes.
That was a beautiful kill shot!! ;>)
Need I repeat my earlier post? Don’t want to wear a seatbelt? Great. Pay your own medical bills when you get ejected or rattled around in the car like a pea in a can. Not only that, but no seatbelt laws will help cleanse the gene pool of morons. Same with helmet laws for motorcycles. I’m all for it.
Your last paragraph is nonsense.
Sounds like the people who say, “oh well Americans have killed thousands of innocents, so I’m not sympathetic when their soldiers die.”
Well thank ya kindly!
#21: Well, the ratio of innocent family dogs dying by trigger-happy cops is still much higher. Color me unsympathetic.
But hey, at least personal attacks such as these can be spewed freely with no repurcussions:
#24: maybe color you jerk for posting that here is more appropriate
#39: How about I color you dumber than snot.
#103: Dumber than snot? Well in regard to Gawain, ala Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, I will have to concur with Gator and agree "It's true Your Honor; this man has no d!ck."
Wow, he quoted a movie and it impressed you! If you ask him nicely, I’m sure he’ll give you his autograph too!
Hmmm...You poor poor soul. You got that booboo a few days ago and you’re still crying!?! You better find a dog that will lick it for you and make it all better.
Oh, and I simply must ask...Did you have that surgically removed or were you born without one?
Have a wonderful fun filled day......
XXXOOO
They just let any old child log into the internet these days. Try making sense next time.
TIA.
TIA!! You said TIA. That’s it, I am so sorry. I would have never intentionally upset someone having a Transient Ischemic Attack. That’s serious stuff.
Kind thoughts to you and please....get well......
Seriously, how old are you? I think you took a wrong turn at MySpace. This is (supposed to be) a grownup political forum, not a testing ground for your third grade penis references.
KMA...That’s right KMA.
You see, the KENTUCKY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (KMA) might be able to help you out with that TIA ( Transient Ischemic Attack) problem you’re having.
This might make it easy for you to remember: You said, “TIA” and I said,”KMA”. See, it’s easy.
You’re certainly welcome...good luck.
Remember....KMA.
