Mike Huckabee is being backed by a bizarre upstate group that has been denounced as a cult, The Post has learned.

Records show Huckabee raked in $20,000 from Sara Bronfman, the Seagram liquor heiress and high-profile devotee of the NXIVM group.

[... that kind of statement (from that article) is a methodology to blunt the “cult criticism” of Christians (who do adhere to the basic, historic and foundational teachings and doctrines of Christianity) ...]

Nail on the head, ST!

CHAMPION OF CIRCUMSTANCE

Sorry Luke... The Mormon jesus is NOT my Jesus.

My Jesus is the ONLY son of God.

Humans give birth to other humans.

God gives birth to ... God.

Jesus was not created, as we are.

It’s not that difficult to understand.

I’m going to need to borrow some duct tape, if you’d be so kind.

I’m going to tape my brain back inside my skull.

These religion discussions are funny.

Some folks are so sure they have all the answers.

All we have to do is Love God (who you’d have to believe in to love) and love your neighbor as you would want to be loved (thus demonstrating God’s sovereignty and perfection.

All the rest is for Him to know, and us to find out.

You said — “All the rest is for Him to know, and us to find out.”

BUT, there is an election coming up — and — I was giving “one criteria” that I was using as my “first criteria” for the purposes of eliminating candidates that I would vote for.

I’m speaking about who is going to get my vote — and not — who is going to end up in Heaven... LOL!

Regards,
Star Traveler

Y’all might find post #38 interesting.

Pelham: Sorry, dear friend (what with dragging you into hornets' nests, as it were), but the above nonsense that Jo pinged me to just doesn't fly. I had you in mind particularly because there are posts making reference to the late, great Walter Martin.

Jo: I'll have to give a full and appropriate response in the near future. There is simply a lot to deal with here!

Happy Blessed New Year Sweetie!
Thanks for stopping by. You’re
right about this being a lot to
chew on. Certainly mind games.

Walter Martin, as I recall, had Mormon ancestry. Post #38 is interesting, in that the poster appears to believe that orthodox Christian apologetic equates to hate speech.

My impression of Nicea is that Constantine convened it to settle the bickering between the Arians and the trinitarians. The famous ‘one iota of difference’ between homoousian and homoiousian. Like substance, vs same substance. What relevance this debate has for LDS belief isn’t clear to me, as Mormon theology isn’t even in the ballpark of this debate. Jehovah’s Witness theology arguably is related to what was debated at Nicea, LDS doctrine not at all.

Constantine sponsored Nicea, but I doubt that he had much input, so his pernicious character is about as relevant as that of King James, another joker who ended up attaching his name to something significant in church history.

Exactly correct.

Yeah. I found that a little weird--OK, more than a little. Jehovah's Witness/Watchtower theology is on the "like" side, if one were to liken any such debate to the Nicene affair.

Certainly mind games.

The insanity of our devolving campaign process is well underway, apparently. I hate election years, plain and simple.

I can't help but remember Washington's warning in his 1796 farewell address.

Hmm... We are with you with the first part of your statement. Jesus is the only begotten of the Father. Mormons, or the living Christians of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have always believed that.

Then you say "God gives birth to ... God." OK. No problem there. We believe that.

Then you say, Jesus was not created. But you just said that God gives birth to God. Did he give birth to himself? That is the logical conundrum of the Nicean Creed. In effect, the creeds say the Father of Jesus is Jesus. And therefore, Jesus has no Father except himself.

That is why Jesus told Joseph Smith that the creeds are an abomination. In essence they deny the existence of our Father in Heaven, someone who Jesus loved, and loves, very much. As Peter said, "thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Mormonism is, apparently, one of the only religions that believes that there is a God who actually lives and who actually has a physically begotten son, named Jesus Christ.

BTW, I would far more believe Joseph Smith about the nature of God, than I would the wicked political and pagan ruler Constantine.
