The Texas Department of Transportation will hold several local meetings early next year to offer answers on the proposed Trans-Texas Corridor.
In 2007 TxDOT released a tentative outline for the cross-country Interstate 69, which is currently planned to come through Texarkana. The highway would be a straight shot from Canada, through the United States and into Mexico.
TxDOT will hold nearly a dozen “town hall” meetings and 46 public hearings to encourage public input and address concerns.
“We want to hear the public’s ideas and we want to answer their questions,” said TxDOT Commissioner Ted Houghton. “Their comments will help shape the final decisions.”
Town hall meetings will be held in January and February, the first of their kind offered by TxDOT, at the insistence of citizens statewide that there be more opportunity for open communication on transportation issues.
“The format will encourage more give-and-take discussion, something not allowed by rules that govern formal public hearings,” Houghton explained.
Questions about the TTC or any transportation issues will be addressed by a panel of TxDOT officials. ...

As hopes for the international Interstate 69 move forward, Texas is planning to establish a public advisory committee along the proposed route.
I-69 is being considered to cross Texas north to south, and connect Canada to Mexico.
“There will only be one committee for the I-69 route, made up of 24 members from locations up and down the corridor,” said Marcus Sandifer, public information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation.
The committee will be consulted regarding where the Trans-Texas Corridor should be constructed and how it can best meet transportation needs. Committee members will report their recommendations to TxDOT’s executive director.
The advisers would also be used to encourage public input during future environmental studies in the corridor.
“The committee members will help serve as liaisons between the public, local officials and TxDOT,” Sandifer said.
Committee members will be named early in 2008, and a couple should be from the Texarkana area.
“Members of the committee will be appointed by local entities or groups within the corridor segment,” Sandifer said.

Trans-Texas Corridor PING!
Gee, I thought the Bush Admin said they knew of no plans for this?
And no, I didn’t believe that was true.
I-69?
Unfortunate name is unfortunate. :D
The RUMOR is they will only build the Northern lanes, from Mexico to the US, at first - making it one-way indefinitely.
And didn't Medved look upon all those who said this was coming as "kooks" on his "conspiracy theory" day?
Aren’t they planning on using HWY 59 that runs north from Houston to Texarkana?
Somebody hire Bourne?
BTTT
That is what they would have us believe.
I don't like Medved anyway. He's the kook.
E-mails released detailing DA's relationship with secretary [Houston, TX]
I believe part of U.S. 59 is in the plan.
