I’m an engineer who “does that sort of thing” for a living. I actually get paid to [inter alia] calculate orbits based on measurements and make estimates of the probabilities of events associated with those calculations. Not interplanetary orbits and not quite the same kind of events, but a not very distant cousin.

The reason I asked if you were a math teacher, I just finished a math class where we studied odds & probabilities. I came to the realization that the probability that I like figuring probabilities was actually quite low. I kept getting confused about the differences between probabilities and odds and whether you were figuring something FOR or AGAINST it happening.
I think people are born with mathematical gifts, I don't think I was - but I do have creative gifts.
Hopefully they don't make you monitor the Klingons around Uranus.
