The guy who runs the web site you quote....First State Politics...is Dave Burris. He was the FORMER head of the Sussex county GOP. I spoke to the new guy who replaced Dave.

Hey, Fred Thompson is very, very well liked in Sussex county. We’re all going to write him in, yes we are.

I still am not convinced that bypassing Delaware was intentional on Thompson’s part although it could be. Delaware is a small state and that 2/5 primary date is a big one. It’s just that somebody DID try to get Fred on the ballot but just ran out of time.

This is bad campaign work, duh.

I didn’t know about Washington state.

I think Fred’s going to do very well in the upcoming voting events. Even though, ahem, he treated Delaware shabbily. Heh. Here in Sussex county we think Rush Limbaugh is too damn liberal.

Harrumph.

I don’t really think he intended to skip Delaware. I think he just ran out of time and put the least of his limited resources into Delaware to concentrate on the other states. It’s possible if he’d spent the resources to be certain of getting on the ballot in Delaware he might have missed someplace else, someplace with more significance in his planning. Just a thought.

I’d really like to know the numbers on the “disallowed” signatures that had been gathered and the reasons for striking them. Who knows? It could be someone in the tank for Ron Paul or the Huckster (or an ACORN/MoveOn plant) playing fast and loose with Fred’s petitions. Not a Delaware Republican official, but someone “working for” Fred’s campaign who intentionally did things wrong, but “gathered” enough signatures that Thompson’s people didn’t spend any resources getting more before the deadline. If it were reported to them that there were, say, several thousand signatures in the bag they might have walked away happy and by the time they found out it was too late (probably 12/10 or shortly after that). By that time all of their resources were committed to Iowa.

All just speculation.
