The more Huck attacks Romney, the better it is for Romney. Everyone in Iowa talking about Romney is a good thing for Romney.

I agree that the combination of negative media, Fred Thompson attacking, Mitt Romney’s adds, Pakistani mis-steps and other negatives are adding up to erosion for Mike. He has to convince voters that he is not the criminal and illegal immigrant lover, as well as foreign policy amateur he has been portrayed as the past few weeks. His inability to really define himself beyond a Christian has allowed others to define him.

It looks like Iowa GOPers are going to make up their mind at the last possible second and one candidate will collect the bulk of those votes.

I am hoping those voters break late for FDT, but I worry that the Bhutto assasination will highlight national security and cause a late break for McLunatic.

If Fred can finish a strong third, and Romney wins Iowa, Huckabee will be out for the duration of the game and then it comes down to a Fred vs Romney battle for South Carolina.

Huckabee will still beat Romeny. This is the type of stuff that we posted on Free Republic prior to the 2006 slaughter the Republicans took in the congressional elections. We would find some crazy poll or wish for some trend and even Sean Hannity was talking upbeat that we may even keep both houses. But in the end it was just what it was.

The good thing for mywife and I is that we actually already voted for Huckabee with our absentee ballots in Michigan. Huckabee is a principaled man with only a couple flaws (I hope he is a little more hawkish on immigration). Unlike Flip Romney and Feingold McCainnedy (Feingold/ Kennedy) and super lib Guiliani.

The real poll is January 3rd, the day of the caucus.

While all of the other GOP candidates are beating themselves silly with attack ads that are turning off voters, the real elephant in the room is Dr. Paul.

If he places 3rd or higher, you can kiss the other candidates goodbye.

Huckabee, McCain, and Thompson are going broke and may not make it to Super Duper Tuesday.

Helluva way to select the leader of the free world.

Oh, and welcome to FR. Takes some stones to post a vanity on your first day; if you are really new and not a retread...

My opinion is that I hope Mitt and the Huckster chew each other up like Wrigley spearmint gum.
I am rooting for them to utterly destroy each other.

The Huckster has been exposed. Mostly, he offers his piety. For some, that’s enough. But for many more, it’s not.

It appears Romney really has the momentum over the past one or two weeks.

Mitt Romney is the one candidate who can pull together, as best as possible, the numerous factions of the Republican Party.

Oh, there might be 1-3% of the obstinate Repub crowd who "will never" vote for a Mormon, but they will be more than made up through cross-over votes from the middle and right Democrats.

SHrillary is unsuportable, and many Democrats would rather see Romney than a quasi Muslim in the White House.

Between Romney and Huckabee I will take Romney anytime. However from most polls lately it looks like Fred is moving into 3rd place that is good news if it holds. I believe Fred is the person to steer the country in the right direction.Lord help us if any dimocRAT gets to be the POS.

I want Huckabee not so much because I want him to be nominated (He’s my second choice after McCain) but rather because Romney must be defeated.

Romney is a sure loser in November. If we nominate him we will start with a double digit deficit in the polls and never come back.

He’s an overly slick, flip flopper with a country club backround and no connection to the common man. He comes across as someone who will say or do anything to win. A typical politician. If you were to create a candidate who is bound for failure in the current political environment you couldn’t do much better than Romney. He is a disaster as a candidate and if we nominaye him not only will we lose but we will have asked for it.

I actually think he would make a good president but that doesn’t matter because he will never even come close. He needs to be taken down in Iowa so we can pick someone who has a shot.

I think Huck will go down as 2008's Howard Dean... rocketed to the front only to flame out immediately.

I have said this on other threads and will repeat my Prediction -- Huck finished FOURTH in Iowa. It will be Romney, Thompson, McCain, Huck, Rudy.

Then McCain will take NH with Romney, Guiliani, Huck, Thompson.

This will set Romney and McCain neck & neck as the front runners. Huck will be considered an also ran after this, and is also basically out of money. Thompson will throw all his eggs in South Carolina, Guiliani will throw all of his eggs in Florida. Both will have to win those respective states to still be alive Super tuesday.

I’d be very happy to see Huckabee lose, but I don’t care much for Romney, either. I’m really beginning to dislike the Iowa Republicans. I don’t see why they get to speak for the whole country.

Mr. Huckabee is not ready for “prime time,” as evidenced by his foreign policy statements. I hope the people in Iowa have come to realize this.

I suspect what will happen on Thursday will be psychological. Huckabee supporters may be more numerous, but given his repeated gaffes and the “bloom coming off the rose,” so to speak, his supporters will be weaker. Fewer of them will attend the caucuses. Romney’s supporters will be more determined, and will go, stay, and fight, and Romney’s organization, as you say, will find more of them to attend.

Could this be wishful thinking from me, as a Romney supporter? Sure. We’ll know soon enough!

Novak said today on FNC that most people “don’t think Huckabee is smart enough or has the structure or money”..... I did a double take.... I don’t often hear some referred to as not smart enough. trying not to lol.
