Baghdad calm one year after Saddam's death
Telegraph ^ | December 29, 2007 | Damien McElroy in Baghdad

Baghdad will mark the first anniversary of Saddam Hussein’s execution on Sunday as a city transformed, largely as a result of thousands of his loyalists forging new alliances with the American military.

This is old news since it has been all over the MSM. Hasn’t it?

You know that it chokes the msm to have to print this type of success story on victory in Iraq.

God Bless President Bush and our brave troops.

Happy New Year.

The success of the surge is the most underreported story of 2007.

I don’t suppose they’re having any piñata parties in honor of the occasion, are they?

Yes, they, with the help of their friends in the media have actually been able to influence events in the war. How they can sleep at night knowing some of the things they have enabled is beyond me.

Despite their efforts, good is winning out and will triumph in the end.

Iraq is a success story. The greatest succes story of this decade and that will become even more pronounced in the coming year.

Well, I'm going back next week at the end of my (short!) vacation here at home. My current mission ends in April and I've got to decide in the next couple of months whether I'll extend or come home. ("Come home" has a nice ring to it.)

I don't know if I want to spend another summer in Iraq. If things have progressed far enough by April, I may dust off my hands and go on to something else. I wanted to stick around to see it work and I'm seeing that now.

The Clash song "Should I Stay or Should I Go" is now my theme song. ;-)

Baghdad’s calm because you’re in Houston right now.

She’s in Houston? Damn, I thought it was calm because she was in Baghdad. The truth is the opposite? Now, I suppose Houston will come unglued. ;-)

Now, I've only been in Houston just over a week and it hasn't been in the news or anythying.

I go back to Baghdad next week and well, we'll see.

See, there's this rooster there...

One thing is for certain, despite good news, the US and Iraqi forces shall continue going after the remaining insurgents.
Perhaps there are a lot fewer left at this point then one might expect. After all UBL and others put out the call months back for them to return to Afghanistan and Pakistan (by default).

We should have executed him within days of capturing him. Maybe, it would have spead up the “awakening”.
