HOUSTON Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal apologized Friday for hurting his family, friends and co-workers when e-mails were released detailing his affectionate relationship with his secretary.
The documents, which surfaced as part of a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Harris County Sheriff's Office, were posted online by the federal clerk's office before a judge resealed them Thursday.
U.S. District Judge Kenneth Hoyt said he had only intended to make public Rosenthal's request that the notes sent from his county e-mail address be kept confidential.
Earlier this week, Rosenthal called the disclosure "bare knuckle politics" engineered by Lloyd Kelley, an attorney in the case who is friends with Rosenthal's political opponent.
But on Friday, the district attorney issued a written statement saying the release has been "wake-up call to me to get my house in order, both literally and figuratively."

This latest misuse of public resources and unethical conduct with a subordinate employee proves Harris County Republicans should have found a new DA candidate a long time ago.
Paging Mike Nifong! Paging Mike Nifong!
Since guns aren’t the only thing our friendly DA was using his office to grab, any thoughts on dumping the guy with a couple days left before the filing deadline?
Dude needs to go.
This one’s a Repub, but still an embarassment.
He also argued and lost in this case before the SCOTUS which was a landmark case

Maybe he didn’t want to win.
Did I read that right, that he had an affair with this woman in the 80s during his first marriage? (And he said it wasn’t the reason for his divorce - yeah!) Then why would he hire her as his secretary? Didn’t that raise flags in everybody’s camp? His wife? His boss? Huh?
Harris County Republocrats. No difference between the parties here other than name. They work together for united cronyism.
Absolutely correct.
Rosenthal is the prosecutor who blew, err, lost the Lawrence case with his total ineptitude in front of the Supreme Court, despite Scalia’s best efforts to help the guy out.
The local tv station released emails he sent her, apparently on a daily basis, showing he never gave up on the idea, even when she wasn’t interested.
Must be fun to work for a guy who tries to get you in bed every day.
Met this guy at some local Republican events. He’s a creep. Glad he is getting exposed very publicaly. There are several good assistant DAs that would make good candidates to replace him.
This IS bareknuckle politics. Poon and Tang.
Agreed.
Too Shay.
