The AP finally catches on to something that returning soldiers have been trying to tell us for some time now.

They’re about 6 months late on this, if not more. And more reluctant than a cow descending stairs.

This, from the Yahoos at AP is telling. There is a survival instinct within the MSM.

The 1st sign is that signpost up ahead. AP/DBM is entering the Twighlight Zone.

Holy cow!! The AP actually noticed something good in Iraq??

Much of the success is due to President Bush's decision to send nearly 30,000 American reinforcements to Iraq and to changes in tactics by top U.S. commander Gen. David Petraeus.

Wonder how much THAT hurt!??

The Associated Press has been one of the most strident institutional opponents of the war for quite some time now. This is a belated and grudging admission of an accomplished fact. It's a good sign - if there were any possible way for them to spin it any other way, they'd have done so, and in fact they tried it here.

More so than ever this is the time to pin these guys down - what would victory look like? What are they expecting? What standards are they using? For a very long time now the answer to that was "don't know what victory might look like but whatever we see before is is defeat." That's not going to do anymore and I think their brighter editors have figured that out.

What it has done in the end is to lower a level of credibility that perhaps the AP should never really have enjoyed in the first place. The last thing they want is for readers to look at the dateline and say "Oh, AP" dismissively, and we have been.

"The principal problem is this is a country with no agreement on what the country is," said Mideast analyst Jon Alterman.

I wonder who "Mideast analyst Jon Alterman" might be related to...

Maybe the AP is not mentally retarded after all—could be just developmentally delayed.
