Because many, if not most, shysters don't see people or right and wrong. They see $$$$$ and in the end that's all that matters.

you have to wonder about the sleaze factor.

What about the chain of custody? How do you PROVE the child was the only one with the mp3 unit? Is there anyone else who had access to the mp3 unit? (siblings,boyfriends of mother,father,relatives)

What I suspect is you have a nusance factor here. The lawyer is just generating negative PR in order to generate the “go away” value.
