If you say something and it comes across wrong, a reasonable person tries to correct it. Do you remember when VP Dan Quayle was lambasted for misspelling "potatoe"? How about when Pres. G. Bush mispronounced "nuclear". Neither man deserved the ridicule that was poured out on them for those errors. How is this any different?
You’re wrong. Her assassination is part of the larger story of democracy in Pakistan, instability, radical islam, and nuclear proliferation. It is very much a political issue that needs to be part of the debate. This isn’t a matter of exploiting tragedy for political gain, but rather a much needed sober assessment of the the sort of experience our next president will need to confront the serious issues that he will be faced with. This is a very serious matter of international security and nuclear proliferation. One of the rare times you really cannot overstate the impact it will have on the world and our future. Fred needed to make this case and remind everyone of his unique expertise on this matter. Not for his own sake, but for ours.
Can you really fathom anyone seriously contemplating supporting Huckabee in times like these?
Both Thompson and Romney had good responses. Quite a constrast to Hillary and Huckabee.
This “slip” is hardly isolated. It is in Huckabee’s character to blame America first or generally take the liberal stance on things -— his “too high” CEO pay thing comes to mind. (What does he propose? Limiting the right of shareholders to pay the board? Windfall profit taxes? The issue is a private issue between shareholders and the board.)
At the least, Huck’s “slip” shows how ill-preparped Huckabee is for the national stage. Already his “slip” is being used by conspiracy nutjobs in the muslim world to support rumors of a CIA attack.
I don’t know if Hunter can carry Calif-it’s too far gone although conservative ballot initiatives tend to work. I would like to see him as SecDef or head of Homeland Security.

Ridiculous. The main adversaries never even faced each other in combat. They signed treaties with each other during the period. You distort the concept of "world war" beyond all recognition.
The reason it's called the Cold War is because it was not a world war, it was the Cold War.

Media types pushing McCain are only doing so because they are terrified that Thompson will win and actually do something to slow the onslaught of socialism. These media people can’t come out and say who they support and who they’re afraid of. They’re like liberals. Liberal women. I’m talking about Pat Buchanan, Brit Hume, Fred Barnes, Krauthammer, and the biggest woman of all, OReilly. Wimps? Sissies? Crybabies? There must be a better word to describe them.
And how about opening your eyes? We’re already winning in Iraq!
About the only other thing I’ve posted in awhile (other than a regular thread I put up (and didn’t finish last week) with a list of the upcoming weekend talk show guests) was a post on a thread about Huckabee’s “apology” for Bhutto’s death. I agree with the pundits who are calling it very Jimmy Carterish.
I’m a Fredhead and have started to get a very thin skin about comments that appear to knock him. So many in the MSM and on the left go out of their way to trash him that I’ve got to think that there’s something there that they're afraid of. To me he truly is the only real conservative in the field who has a shot, even if he isn't "perfect" to some people. He was my Senator so I know his record fairly well and I always liked what he did, overall, even if I disagreed with him on some issues (e.g. McCain/Feingold CFR, which he's said was a mistake).
I definitely want Fred to win and think that he’ll do enough better than expected to be the big story coming out of Iowa, even if he doesn’t win (I hope he does, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope). I will vote for him if he’s still on the ballot when our primary comes up here in Tennessee.
In the general election I’ll vote for almost anyone the Republicans nominate over almost anyone who the Democrats are likely to put up. But there's no way I could vote for "crazy uncle" Ron Paul (not possible as the R nominee anyway, IMHO) nor, at the present time, could I bring myself to vote for the Huckster. He really creeps me out. I'm a believing Christian but "preachers" like him are why I don't belong to any church and am very cynical about churches in general. It appears to me that he's in it for the Huckster, not anyone else and certainly not for God. He reminds me a lot more of Jim Bakker than of Billy Graham.
Fred nailed Huckabee with one comment several weeks ago. He described the Huckster as a “pro-life liberal.” Not that there's anything wrong with a pro-life liberal. I just don't want one as the Republican nominee for President.
