Maybe we could execute deathrow prisoners from other states and countries for a fee?

With the new “Castle Doctrine” law, the number of death penalty cases in Texas may decline. Fewer criminals are going to survive to make it to the big leagues.

Unless I'm mistaken, and Lord knows that's frequent enough, but isn't this article complaining about a government actually doing what it's laws tell it to do?  Somehow this article strikes me as parody.

People really do question capital punishment.

It's not capital punishment they are questioning.  It's how the system manages to find so many innocent people guilty.  I have no problem with capital punishment, but I am damn sure against executing the wrong guy.

That is an absolute shame.

The rest of the country needs to pick up the slack and drop the Texas percentage down to something akin to 10-15%.

I say that Death Row should consist of only one cell, and when one moves in, one has to move out.

"walk free"

I had a conversation with a co-worker about that issue. He was firm in his belief about the tragedy of executing an innocent person. I agree that it would be tragic, but then we discussed the deterrent factor. I told him if capital punishment is a deterrent (and I and a number of other people think it is), then by not executing murderers we are allowing many innocent people to be murdered.

Even if that means occasionally executing an innocent person, in the long run if more people are not murdered, then capital punishment is justified. He asked me how would I like to be that innocent person who was executed. I asked him how would he like to be murdered by an escaped or paroled convicted killer. Which has undoubtedly happened far more often than a wrongly executed person.

"Zangara"

Some years ago I saw old footage of Zangara being interviewed while in his jail cell. He smiled for the film camera, and told the interviewer he was sorry he missed FDR.

But her killer got to live for two more decades and even got ice cream on his last day!

When I become Warden, their last meal will be Shi'ite sandwich.
