I’m not supporting McCain for the nomination, but I think that remark was really ghastly. He was a tortured American POW, for heaven’s sake. Show some respect.

I loath McCain but your point is dead on correct.

We end up allowing a lot of strange things to happen to the culture by letting political correctness silence us. It's just a fact that prior to the 1960s, being taken POW as someone whose circumstances would undermine the war effort wouldn't be considered heroic. Think of FDR's son being taken POW during WW2; it's unimaginable.

Two of the three most undermining military figures of the Vietnam Conflict/War have been serious presidential candidates in the last 3 campaign seasons. I suppose William Calley is waiting for 2012. Undermining by circumstances, not by design, at least in McCain and possibly Calley's case.
