It’s “initial coinage” is not relevant at this point. Most people understand “trophy wife” to be perjorative. It implies home-wrecker or shallow or valueless beyond physical attractiveness or “bimbonic.” It’s an insult to the woman and the man who married her.
You, sir, are spot on. Thank you.
I thought trophy wife meant boobs
I’m just sayin’
Romney is going to lose both Iowa ( To Huckabee) and NH to McCain)...Romney's candidacy then collapses..because one year of hard work and tens of millions of his own money couldn't "buy" him a win..The overwhelming majority of his supporters, and campaign staff, will go to Fred..who will win S Carolina easily..
I think you do need to acknowledge that a true “trophy” wife does in fact exist. And once you acknowledge that, you will realize that sometimes it is debateable which are trophies and which are not.
So instead of banning someone who used the term, let’s just let them know how stupid they are for applying it incorrectly.
My understanding of the definition of "trophy wife" is the same as that given in Wikipedia, and in the top definitions at urbandictionary.com. Good looking "status symbol" younger woman married to a wealthy older man. It implies that the man values looks, perhaps excessively, and the woman values the easy life, perhaps excessively. To me the term does not imply "bimbonic" or "home wrecker." It need not be an insult, and can even be a term of endearment.
“Most people understand ‘trophy wife’ to be perjorative.”
The correct statement is that you understand trophy wife to be perjorative. It’s unfortunate if you or others feelings get hurt over the phrase.
Then again, I’m not responsible for your feelings
