Reagan's War, Not Charlie Wilson's
Media Bias: Hollywood would have us believe that Democrats defeated the evil empire in Afghanistan, and that President Reagan played only a minor role and even helped pave the way to 9/11.
If you think Hollywood's idea of a Christmas movie being one about the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan is strange, even stranger is the plot line. "Charlie Wilson's War," which opened Friday, manages to reduce the president who won the Cold War to a background footnote.
Charlie Wilson was a pro-abortion, Equal Rights Amendment-supporting congressman widely known as "the liberal from Lufkin." To his credit, he did play a role in facilitating support to the Afghan mujahadeen. But it is he who should be the historical footnote.
In his book, "Ronald Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime," Lou Cannon notes how Reagan "expressed revulsion of the brutal destruction of Afghan villages and such Soviet policies as the scattering of mines disguised as toys that killed and maimed Afghan children." He did not need much convincing to aid the Afghan resistance.
Cannon credits Undersecretary of Defense Fred Ikle and CIA Director William Casey with allaying any concern that providing Stinger missiles to the mujahadeen might lead to the missiles' capture and copying by the Soviets. Also involved, says Cannon, was a bipartisan coalition "led by Texas Democrat Charlie Wilson in the House and New Hampshire Republican Gordon Humphrey in the Senate."
So you have at least five players, including Reagan, involved four of them Republican conservatives. Ikle notes: "Senior people in the Reagan administration, the president, Bill Casey, (Defense Secretary Caspar) Weinberger and their aides deserve credit for the successful Afghan covert action program, not just Charlie Wilson." So guess which one Hollywood makes a movie about?

How about a movie based on Kathleen Willeys new book?
ping.
It was written by Aaron Sorkin,,, so it’s his wet dream of a righteous Democrat. Those evil Republicans did nothing and I guess he manages to ignore the fact that President Reagan almost single-handedly destroyed the Evil Empire.
Bump for the fiction I thought this movie would be no matter what you think of Hanks.
Have never understood Roberts’ popularity... the last time I saw a mouth like that, it had a hook in it !
Everything about war that is good, is due to left-liberal US political support. FDR. Charlie Wilson, but, darn, those evil conservatives failed to follow up by “nation building” after. Why, even Hillary Edwards “voted for the war” in Iraq, but, darn, they didn’t vote for Bush to bungle HOW the war was fought. Yeah!
Everything about war that is bad, is due to eeeevil Republican conservatives.
This message brought to you by Aaron “makes James Carville look neutral” Sorkin and most of the rest of Hollywood.
Yep even the cover of the VHS/DVD or Movie Billboards back in 1987 all had Julia Robert’s bodydouble. One of the first Photoshops? haha
The aid cutoff was depicted in the movie as Done by old Democrat Committee Chairmen, not by Reagen.
Or “ Murdered By Mumia” by Susan Faulkner.

The second purpose of this thread is how several well informed GOP operatives keep this movie from being another anti-war Democrats-Soros Shadow Party hit piece by cutting the D-SSP off at the knees. And, they used a "yellow dog" Democrat attorney, and major power player, Dick Deguerin of Houston, Texas to do it... who is also Tom "still The Hammer" DeLay's attorney. (You can do the math)
Charlie was very honest that the liberal democrats director and producer made him out to be a much better person that he really was, and gave him more credit than he deserved, in the movie. But the flip side is, for a CIA covert operation as high stakes as this one was, Charlie was a perfect candidate. If the deal went bad the FBI investigates and arrests yellow dog Democrat Charlie for all his crimes, and he is easy for "the powers" to destroy in the MSM to cover up the GOP White House didnt know anything about it gone bad operation. The CIA specifically looks for guys like Charlie for their dirty work and he was well vetted before they got involved and used him. Is anyone dumb enough to not understand that President Ronald Reagan, and his White House inner cabinet circle, were well briefed and informed on Charlie-Gus & Co.'s activities on a detailed and on-going basis.... and that Reagan & Co. was pulling their strings?
Lookit, Charlie Wilson is dying. So let the man have some brief limelight for participating in a significant historical event, that many Americans and other people around the World dont know the details.... in which much of the key information is still classified. So what if it includes some of the liberal slant and pumped up BS about the man.
THE bottom line is, like the Nazis, we kicked those Godless Commie bastards ass! Communists....., along with Fascists, Atheists, Socialists, and other ultra liberal and radical POSs that support the DemoRATs-George Soros Shadow Party, and the Clinton Regime, efforts to destroy our great Country called the United States of America . - FlA
And they are usually the same ones who before we invaded Iraq said that the first George Bush should of finished the job and removed Saddam during the Gulf War.
I first saw Julia while working in Oceans 11. I was amazed. She is thin as a rail and has a mouth that streches from ear to ear. As a professional photographer, I can appreciate how the camera can make her look stunning. The paparazzi get the real stuff because they are shooting on the fly without special lighting, makeup specialist and muliple retakes.
How about a movie based on Kathleen Willeys new book?
Great idea....or based on Ron Brown’s life?
No that would be a story about Ron Brown’s death.
I must confess, however, that Julia Roberts is not what I consider beautiful. These actresses run circles around her.
Their beauty to me is evidence of the existence of God. No random atoms smashing together produced this.
No. It’s beer actually. A pale ale to be precise. A popular beer here in the west.
Merry Christmas!
That would be just one of the good “Bill Clinton’s war” movies that could be made.
“All the President’s Men” book by Woodward and Bernstein came out in 1974, just on the heels of Nixon’s resignation, movie came out in April of 1976, just before the thick of presidential election campaign. They did not wait too long to make that docudrama aka “propagandamentary”.
