I just realized this ‘fair tax’ business is big ‘screw’ time for me. I recently retired and pay nearly nothing in fed taxes anymore. Nothing. It’s a secret/good planning.

So this tax is a major screwing for me.

Do you drive your car?

This is the problem with people..they are so ignorant/uneducated that they have no idea of what they are talking about. You pay taxes at ever level. Gas, Phone, even when you S)*T you pay a tax. FED TAX!

The fair tax would abolish all these taxes and this nation would go into the greatest economic boom ever seen in the history of mankind.
Its to bad that a creep like Huckabee is the one who is putting it out.

Yes, I've never seen anything from the FairTax advocates that adequately deals with its problem of double taxation on retirees.

The "prebate" system tries to deal with the effect it would have on people that need to spend more of their income on essential purchases, so I'll grant them that, even whatever this system is isn't perfect. And I don't like the idea the the fed thinks they have the right of prima nochte on my paycheck.

But retiree funds? This must be addressed. And no, the IRS won't be abolished - someone will have to enforce the system, and thus be granted enforcement powers, no matter what the system is.

The less you buy, the less taxes you pay. It is a strong incentive to buy nothing

You are absolutely correct. That's my problem with FairTax advocates, instead of admitting people like you will be hurt, like you obviously will be, they lie and spin and try to convince you that you will be better off. Some people will make out and some won't. A retiree who now has tax-free income gets a royal screwing under the fair tax. No amount of spinning changes that.

"So this tax is a major screwing for me."

That's a point that the fair tax people can't figure out; those of us that have worked all our lives, paid income tax on our savings, much of which wasn't tax sheltered.

With the fair tax we'd have to pay tax on it again, at least on the principal.

I hesitate to try and paraphrase the "solution" for fear of misrepresenting their argument but basically it was "the price of everything will go down so much that it'll be a wash". Gee, thanks, like I really think that's going to happen.

I do agree that the current tax code is a mess but the big problem is that the goobermint simply spends too much of our money and there's NOTHING that would keep them from raising that 23% to 33% or more and if they don't do that spend it anyway.

It's what happens when dummies want goobermint to take all their money and "take care of them" and until this country gets stuck off stupid it's not going to stop, regardless of the collection method.

You are already paying it. Approximately 22% of everything you purchase is the tax paid at the various levels of production that are passed on to the consumer in the cost of the product. The FairTax eliminates all those different taxes, and replaces them with one national 23% sales tax. PLUS, you get a prebate check for the amount of taxes expected to be paid by a family at a poverty level income.

but the left thinks it is UNfair for you to stop paying taxes till you die.

Warrent buffet supports the death tax because he sells death tax insurance to pay the tax on death.

likewise,

The fairtax scammers want you to pay for THEIR entitlement prebate check from the government.

Like all good left wing ideas, the goal is to punish success.

I think that everyone should be paying something. Not paying anything like yourself is not good when we need to have a military, roads etc. However 23 percent is way too much. 10 percent across the board is much better and yes you would have to pay the 10 percent to...God forbid you support the United States.
