Vox Huckabee - The Republican as class warrior. (AKA: Huckabee as GOP Class Warrior)
Weekly Standard, also published on RCP ^ | 12/31/2007 | Terry Eastland

Posted on 12/23/2007 8:54:10 AM PST by Mr Rogers

As he has throughout the year, Huckabee grounds his pro-life position in the Declaration's recognition of the inalienable right to life. But now, in the heat of the campaign, with the Iowa caucuses just days away, he also uses the Declaration to argue that, in light of its recognition that all men are created equal, any man (or woman) can become president. Even someone like him, the son of working class parents in Hope, Arkansas, the first in his "entire male lineage" to graduate from high school, much less go to college. He put himself through college in just "two years and three months," since four years would have cost too much.

Now, as it happens, there are some who don't recognize that any American can become president. One "Republican muckety-muck," as Huckabee called the unfortunate former Bush aide Dan Bartlett, "made the comment that nobody would ever elect a guy with the last name 'Huckabee.' It was a name that sounded too much like a hick." Bartlett didn't quite say that--he actually praised Huckabee as "the most visionary" candidate while noting that he had the "negativity of something he can't change like his given last name." Huckabee says he doesn't care about what Bartlett said. But plainly he does.

Huckabee runs both as a Baptist, and as John Edwards. I don't care for either tactic.

PS - runs on realclearpolitics using the second title.

I just find this two Americas stuff gagging when it comes from a democrat.

Huckabee’s campaign, as Rush said, is based on identity politics. I expect Huckabee’s next commercial to be filmed in a small log cabin, where he taught himself by firelight...

Me neither. I wish him all the worst. Hearing someone rant about "big corporations" just turns my stomach.

I heard an idiot dj called Mark Simone...they actually have threads for him here...he’s a fill in on wabc talk radio, anyway, he’s just a hack dj who wanted to keep his job so he went with the right wing talk thing as it got bigger. Well, he was on with some idiot female callers and they friggin love Huckabee and his retarded Christmas ads. The dude was harping on Fred for not having executive experience, like Huckabee does, etc. It was sad and pathetic, but a good indication that there are in fact plenty of drooling morons out there lining up for Huckabee. Sad.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

For some reason, I have a feeling that Huckabee is a RINO on many issues.

Being a Christian and/or a Pastor does not mean you are Conservative.

Huckabee will not get our vote.

We prefer Duncan Hunter and Fred Thompson - Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.

It's about winning. He's casting off the stereotype that all Pubs are a bunch of blue blood country club types. He's working to draw blue collar Rats into support for him.

It strikes me that all too often we look for the perfect and shoot ourselves in the foot rather than settle for the good. The Rats have been able to screw up this country for a long time, because they just want to win. We need a candidate who knows how to fight to win not try to be perfect.

Politics should include an element of truth. The is no where in the world better suited for getting ahead than America.

Huckabee should be pointing out that he is living proof that in America, hard work and talent pays off. Instead, he’s saying, ‘You need me to fight for you against those horrible things called big business...’ - ignoring the fact that businesses get big by making and selling things people want at prices they are willing to pay.

He is, for goodness sakes, willing to go fight the fight for...Christmas?!

His whole shtick is ‘put someone like you in government to use government to make your life better’. However, a government than can fight your enemies is only one election away from attacking you.

When Huckabee backstabbed GWB in his foreign policy speech that did it for me. He dropped to the bottom of my list just above Ron Paul.

I agree in your economic analysis. How far has supporting "big business" gotten the Pubs. Should there be truth in advertising, you bet. Is there? No!

Yes, indeed. I'd even take Guiliani over the Huckster (can I say that on FR), lol.

Unless Huckabee was a desirable conservative, in which case we'd be praising him for his leaning on grass roots support rather than power elites.

Hard to believe he’s leading the GOP pack. Most of us here would vote him off the island first.

Funny, isn't it?

The latter would have a pretty good shot at the White House.

The former, not so much.

Either way sounds good to me.

Huckleberry didn't win any debates! The media reported that he won two debates. Their are pushing that BIG GOOBER off on us.

I posted that the huckster won debates, as an objective analysis on the official debate threads here on FR. How do you know it was objective? Because I’m a Hunter supporter and my analysis spit out Huckabee as the winner.

Basically I took a snapshot of Intrade before and after the debates and looked at the deltas. The results showed that Huckabee won.

When the same analysis showed that Hunter won the last debate, the fred followers went into a frenzy.

Like I said: Huckleberry didn’t win any debate, not a single one! The media reported that he won two debates. They are trying pushing that BIG GOOBER off on us as a winner, when the Huckster is a LOSER.

So, reiterating what you already said is somehow making your point stronger? Did you read what I wrote AT ALL? Does objectivity mean anything to you? Have you ever posted anything that didn’t make your candidate look like the best thing since sliced bread?

I suppose answering questions put to you is a foreign concept.
