Charming and Aloof, Huckabee Changed State
new york times ^ | 12/22/2007 | Steve Barnes

“Huckabee didn’t build bridges,” said State Senator Jim Argue Jr., a Democrat and leader in the schools overhaul effort. “If you didn’t agree with him, he attacked you.”

Charmaine Yoest, a senior adviser to the Huckabee campaign, said it was important to keep in mind that Mr. Huckabee was a Republican governor in one of the most Democratic states in the country.

“Yet here’s a man who managed to fix the roads, improve education and actually govern with the Democrats,” Ms. Yoest said. “People say he was intolerant, but how does that square with him being able to build coalitions and be re-elected numerous times?”

I would love to know when the dimocRATS reach out. The Republicans under GWB have done it quite often. Way to much in my opinion. Than again this is an article from the NYT.

More of the endless pushing of “the Gobber, Aka, Huck, Huckster, the BIG Huckleberry” by the main stream media. Why would the PR arm of the DNC (MSM) be carrying water for a Republican other than John McLame?

Most of Mr. Huckabee’s clemency decisions were unremarkable; in the vast majority of cases he simply followed the recommendation of the Arkansas Parole Board. But in a small though significant number of cases, he commuted prison sentences for murderers and other violent criminals over the pleas of victims’ families, prosecutors and judges. And as his reputation for granting clemency spread, applications surged. “We had tons of them,” said Cory Cox, who worked for several years as Mr. Huckabee’s aide in charge of clemency matters. “People, they’d call and say, ‘Please, let the governor look at this. We don’t know who the next governor is going to be.’ ” By every account, Mr. Huckabee’s approach to clemency was heavily influenced by his religious beliefs. As John Wesley Hall, a Little Rock defense lawyer who filed numerous clemency petitions with the Huckabee administration, put it, “He’s a Baptist preacher who believes in redemption and second chances.”

Looks like Huckabee doesn't have a problem with freeing violent criminals. The problem with pardons on the basis of religious conversion is that lots of people can feign it. Huckabee is like a lot of liberals - he believes in redemption on earth. As all Christians know, a Redeemer already exists and His name is not Huckabee - in fact, He is not of this world.

Actually, now that John ("no free speech for Americans, no jail time for terrorists") McCain is doing better in NH, the DBM will be torn between praising Huck's socialism and McLame's treason.

Huckabee didn’t build bridges,” said State Senator Jim Argue Jr., a Democrat

That would be hard to do in Clinton's Arkansas. For example, when Huckabee was elected lieutenant governor of Arkansas in 1993, Democrats nailed the office door shut from the inside for 59 days.

Democrats actually sealed the lieutenant governor's office and wouldn't let a Republican in, LOL.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

I knew it was a liberl rag that wrote this headline before I clicked the link.

But when the New York Times starts speaking well of a Republican, beware that man.

If our party nominates that malicious little goober, Huckabee, we deserve to lose. We will have confirmed the worst stereotypes about conservatives.
