Ramos, Compean pardons? 'No,' 'No,' says Bush rep
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | December 22, 2007

The White House apparently is so reluctant to discuss the issue of pardons or commutations for convicted U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean that a spokesman doesn't even want to allow questions about the issue to be finished.

The circumstances arose during a White House press gaggle with spokesman Tony Fratto, when Les Kinsolving, WND's correspondent at the White House, tried to raise the issue of the disparity in the treatment of the Border Patrol agents, compared to that given Scooter Libby, an aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of lying during an investigation into the outing of the identity of a covert U.S. agent.

The agents were convicted and given prison sentences of 11 and 12 years for shooting after a self-confessed drug smuggler fleeing back into Mexico after leaving 750 pounds of marijuana in Texas, while Libby was excused from serving any of his prison sentence through President Bush's intervention.

The White House repeatedly has said there is a pardons request procedure available to the agents, even though Libby apparently did not go through the same process before Bush acted.

"A number of times here, when questions were raised about former U.S. Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, we were told that there is a process for pardon. And I have a three-part question on this…" Kinsolving began.

"You have to make it quick, because they're calling for me," Fratto said.

"I will. Could you explain to us why the president refuses to commute these men who shot an escaping Mexican drug smuggler…" Kinsolving continued.

"No," interrupted Fratto.

"…as the president commuted the prison sentence of his friend, Scooter Libby," Kinsolving asked.

"No," Fratto responded.

All you prove is that you are willing to let Ramos and Compean rot in prison while you exploit the media value of it to give POLITICAL CORRECTNESS an enema.

No one argues that PC doesn’t need an enema, that you allow R&C to sit in prison for it is sick.

BTW - Was that call for armed insurrection in your last post?

“The answer that makes the most sense to me is that the Mexican government has incriminating pictures of Bush from his drinking days.”

“They were doing their JOB!”

Only if shooting unarmed fleeing suspects of a car pursuit in the back is “doing their job”.

“I wish they had shot that Davila a little higher up on his torso!”

Yes, getting rid of a body is so much easier than than throwing shell casings into a ditch.

One suspects Mexico has some damaging information that they are blackmailing the President with. Nothing else could explain his bizarre behavior in this matter.

I don't think this case is a big enough a deal for Mexico to call in their markers, whatever they may be. However, it is clear that Bush's behavior is distorted by some influence of which we can only guess.

Libby is a wealthy creature of the beltway swamp who can take care of himself. The BP agents are simply workinjg men. Bush's abusive disregard of their welfare is inexcusable when otoh he pampers one of the perfumed princes.

Perhaps if the two families can raise enough money to make a sizable donation to the Bush Presidential Library fund?

“Duncan Hunter tried very hard to get to the President to get Ramos and Compean pardoned before Thanksgiving.”

Yes, that was a great photo op. However, If he had been busy trying to pass legislation to better define this law it might have been passed by now and Ramos and Compean would be home with their kids.

Priorities, priorities. When one runs for President there are so many hard choices to make...

If he had been busy trying to pass legislation to better define this law ...

And making it retroactive too, I guess.

Sheesh! It was designed to protect peace officers, as many agree.

“Why have there been no efforts from you to pass legislation to quickly get R&C out of prison?

Probably the same reason Bush has stood down at the border, rolling out the red carpet for his illegal alien friends, while at the same time, publicly encouraging this violent lawless invasion of America.

Fact is Johnny Sutton, Bush's buddy should have never sought such brutally severe sentences. Sutton was told by Bush to throw away the key on these two. That should be clear to all by now.

Bush could release them right now, but it would be far too late to salvage Bush's legacy in regards to his aiding and abetting this violent invasion of America.

Perfectly said. So much for CHARACTER!

I think that's clear to all...even to those who continue to pretend it isn't. Those who are Bush backers refuse to admit exactly what's going on because that would mean they would have to actually criticize this president. That would mean a chink in their armor would occur....and once a chink is admittedly there, it continues to become even more difficult to defend the indefensible with this president.

Basically, it's a matter of cognitive dissonance. The same type of psychological defect occurred with the Clinton supporters. They just could never get around to admitting what a lying pig he was and is.

It will do no such thing. The law as it is written clearly dos not exclude LEO’s if in the performance of their duties they committ a felony. Judges as a rule, and there are exceptione when it comes to left wingers, do not try read into laws additions or conclusions they do not contain.

There are conservative/right-leaning judges do subscribe to the doctrine of original intent. This is one case that absolutely cries out for it. Again, Sutton created the worst sort of precedent for BP agents and other members of the LE community. This sort of precedent completely undermines LE to go after illegal immigrants and/or criminals. This was precisely why the Congressmen issued their brief with the court. This kind of precedent must not be allowed to stand.

Sutton fully understood that it was never ever the intent of Congress that this statute be applied to LEO's operating in the line of duty. Congress automatically assumed that any prosecutor would have enough wisdom and common sense to understand this critical truth. Tragically Sutton lacked both. He fully understood what the legislators were saying but went ahead and exploited the statute anyway in Federal Court. Attempting to justify his actions by saying that Congress never explicitly excluded LEO's from the legislation is the most chicken sh*t excuse imaginable.

Yes, there are dirty cops out there committing real crimes. But there are separate statutes dealing specifically with those kinds of matters.

“But there are separate statutes dealing specifically with those kinds of matters.”

Let’s say a dirty BP agent is being paid off by a Mexican drug cartel. During a drug bust at the border, he sees that the drug mule works for the opposition cartel and shoots the guy, looking for a nice xmas bonus from Tijuana.

What “statute” would that fall under?

BTW - Was that call for armed insurrection in your last post?

Hey everybody it's Gomer. CITIZENS ARREST CITIZENS ARREST!!!! You assumed it now prove it. You can't. What I stated was facts every one used to learn in school as to founders intentions and the reason we remain a free nation. It is because an armed citizen is a deterrent to tyranny. That is why the founders wrote the Second Amendment. You really are a professional apologist for GOP and it's liberal clowns aren't you? LOL Yes indeed that you are.

The idea that Americans at anytime can if necessary by force reclaim their nation from tyrants is an idea as old as the nation itself and one the founders knew, supported, and understood. It used to be taught in public school even up through the 1970's.

That is the very reason for the Second Ammendment. I have a real strong hope it will never, ever, reach the point of a needed reality, but realize at some point it may be a possibility and that it can never ever be taken off the table if we are to remain a free nation. That alone is what trully keeps tyranny in check and the founders themself said it.

Now you explain to me if I am wrong what then actually preserves this nation as being a free nation Of the People?

I say elections can change things and resolve this and you scoff. I say we have enough laws and you do it again. I offer several peaceful ways to bring change the way the founders intended and you mock it as well saying no one does nothing. When I state their final option given us by the founders then you ask as if making an accusation that I am calling for armed insurrection. There is a term for your type on web sites. It's called being a Troll. Bye Bye Troll.
