At the end of September, Erie County (Buffalo) sales tax receipts were up $3 million over projections. Some of that was due to higher gasoline prices, but most of it was because of Canadian shoppers -- and the Christmas shopping season hadn't even begun yet.
Our Democrat county legislature is ecstatic. More dollars to spend on their pet big-government projects. Oh well, every silver lining, cloud, etc..
I would guess the retailers are pretty happy too.

I live a 150 miles from the Canadian border and the parking lots are filled with cars with Canadian plates.
This reminds me of a recent MSM doom and gloom story that claimed “Christmas mall sales down” and had interviews with retailers bemoaning the down year.
Then at the VERY END of the story, they mentioned in passing that online sales were up 30% over last year.

It's easy to find out duties for tobacco and alcohol, but for other things it doesn't seem as obvious.
They don't seem to care much about little gifts, but the bike is a bit more obvious and expensive.
The lowest br / fS that any civilization has ever recovered from is 1.3. Within one additional generation Canada will become a muslim enclave. Within two generations there will be no "Canadians" left, the government will be controlled by muslims and Canadians (no such term will exist) will be living under sharia law. There will be public beheadings in Quebec and stonings of women in Alberta.

That’s a pretty dreary outlook. I’d have to say you’re suffering from “Americaitis.” That means you can’t see the forest for the trees. Alberta, being Texas of the North, would not allow stoning, the citizens wouldn’t allow it. You underestimate the Westerners. As far as Quebec, well...in the words of their own “let them eat cake.”

A Muslim enclave? Maybe in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, and Windsor, but not the rest of Canada. There was an “honour killing” in Toronto last week. Don’t know if you heard about it, the father is in custody, the brother will probably be soon as well. The tide is starting to turn against these monsters.
The duty is probably zero thanks to the Free Trade Agreement but you will be required to pay GST (6%) and PST (rates vary by province).
Check your math. Even with a zero birthrate for native-born Canadians and immigration at current rates it would take several generations for such a shift. Muslims are still < 5% of the population.
In 25 years muslims will be the majority of Canada's already SMALL population. During the next 25 years muslims will take over ALL government positions. That's 50 years.s Your churches will be turned into mosques. French and English will be second languages. Schools will become muslim incubators for jihad.

Canada has a population of over 30 million. So just with some quick math here, the muslims account for about 2.1% of our population. And most muslim families I know here in Windsor have 2 or 3 children, not 4. Yes they have a higher birthrate than most "native" Canadian families, but not 4.8 where you put it. For them to become the majority in 25 years, well...it would pretty much take a war.
I don't think we live in an ideal world here in Canada, but I do know that we, as a nation, do not have our heads so firmly implanted in our rectums.
It’s pretty obvious that you’ve never set foot in Canada, nor do you understand simple arithmetic. Put on another layer of tinfoil and have a nice life.
I think we should quit feeding the troll. I encounter these Canada bashers occasionally here on FR, unfortunately. I wish they’d just get a clue, but they couldn’t buy one if I was paying them to take it.
I sometimes shop at the the mall in Erie PA (it’s a bit of a drive). There are usually buses of Canadian shoppers, even when the dollar is stronger, thanks in part to no tax on clothing in PA. But this year there are more buses and many of the stores are posting that they are accepting Canadian currency. A real bonanza for Erie.
